Dick Howser Stadium | Tallahassee, Fla.

Series Record: Tied 9-9.

TV: ESPN2 (all three games).

To punch its ticket to Omaha, Florida State will have to forge through a talented Stanford pitching staff this weekend.

The Cardinal, ranked among the nation's top three in most polls entering the 2012 season, will start with ace Mark Appel on Friday, who was just taken No. 8 overall by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the MLB Draft on Monday night. Appel is 12-1 with a 2.29 ERA and is ranked fifth nationally with 127 strikeouts in 119 innings of work. The Seminoles will counter with Brandon Leibrandt, who posted his best college start to date with eight shutout innings and 10 strikeouts in the NCAA Regional against Samford.

Stanford No. 2 starter Brett Mooneyham (7-5, 4.26 ERA) was picked by the Washington Nationals in the third round (No. 111 overall).

Stanford ranks No. 32 nationally with a 3.22 team ERA. The Cardinal lineup also features seven players hitting .290 or better. Stanford is No. 18 in the nation in doubles (25), No. 20 in scoring (6.8 per game), No. 25 in home runs (46) and No. 40 in slugging percentage (.429). Stephen Piscotty (6-2, 3.05 ERA) was taken in the compensatory round (No. 36 overall) by the St. Louis Cardinals as a position player. Piscotty is hitting .318 with 55 RBI in 57 games this season. He will also be the if-necessary starter on Sunday and would oppose FSU's Scott Sitz.
