All-Time Seminole Center: Clay Shiver

Biography

BORN: December 7, 1972
BIRTHPLACE: Tifton, Georgia
HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 6'1"/280 pounds
NFL EXPERIENCE: Three years
DRAFT: 1996 - Third round - Dallas
FSU LETTERS: Football 1992-1995
CURRENT JOB: Associate pastor at Morning Star Christian Church in Tallahassee. He is also the Collegiate Director of Champions for Christ.

In the Warchant.com Fan Poll Shiver easily won receiving 973 out of 1216 votes (80%). Kevin Long came in second with 11% of the vote followed by Michael Tanks who had 4% of the vote.

Clay Shiver anchored the Seminole offensive line as the starter at center for three seasons. In his first season he helped FSU earn its first ever national championship and snapped the ball to Hesiman Trophy winner Charlie Ward. He went on to win All-ACC honors for three straight years and took home the Jacob's Blocking Trophy, given to the ACC's top offensive lineman in 1994. In 1995 he was a team captain, a Lombardi semifinalist and earned consensus All-American honors. The ultimate honor came when head coach Bobby Bowden tabbed Shiver as the "best center he has coached in his career at Florida State."

Following his college career, Shiver was drafted and signed with the Dallas Cowboys in 1996. Despite being very undersized by NFL standards, he started 25 games during his pro career in Dallas.

Shiver was inducted into the Florida State University Sports Hall of Fame in 2001.
