Recent Miami quarterbacks have tried in vain to live up to the "Quarterback U" nickname since Ken Dorsey left the program.
Brock Berlin, Kyle Wright, Kirby Freeman and Robert Marve had their moments, but ultimately all struggled.
Could a home-grown talent turn the tide? If sophomore Jacory Harris continues playing the way he did in Tallahassee on Monday night, that answer might be yes. A graduate of Miami Northwestern, Harris guided Miami to a 38-34 victory over Florida State. Harris was 21-of-34 for 386 yards with two touchdowns, two interceptions and a rushing touchdown to earn Rivals.com ACC and National Player of the Week honors.
Harris' finest moment came after a scare in the fourth quarter, when FSU freshman cornerback Greg Reid hit Harris' throwing arm. The errant pass fell into the hands of Florida State defensive end Markus White, who returned the interception for a touchdown that put the Seminoles up 31-24.
Harris returned to calmly lead Miami on two touchdown drives. He completed a 25-yard touchdown pass to Graig Cooper that tied the score and later tossed a 40-yard pass to Travis Benjamin to set up Cooper's winning 3-yard TD run.
Forcier was 13-of-29 for 179 yards and three touchdowns in a 31-0 victory over Western Michigan in his collegiate debut. He also rushed for 37 yards.
COORDINATOR OF THE WEEK: Justin Wilcox, Boise State
Wilcox's defense held Oregon to six first downs, including none in the first half. The Broncos held Oregon to 31 rushing yards and 121 passing yards in their 19-8 victory.
