2009 (Senior): Considered by many as the top running back in the Southeastern Conference, Smith has been named to the preseason 2009 All-SEC First-Team by numerous publications including the Birmingham News, Lindy’s and Phil Steele. He should benefit greatly from more depth at the position this season, which should help him to remain healthy for the duration of the year. He was ready to go for spring football, but was held out in order to continue rehab from hamstring surgery. He has played in 31 career games with nine starts, all of which came in 2008.

2008 (Junior): Smith was a second-team All-SEC honoree by the league coaches and Associated Press. He played in 10 games, missing the season opener and closer, and started nine. He finished the year as the team’s leading rusher and second-leading receiver. On the year, he had 207 carries for 1,072 yards and eight touchdowns. With the effort, he became the ninth player in school history to rush for more than 1,000 yards in a season. He had 509 rushing yards against Top 25 teams on the season, which was the sixth-highest total by any running back nationally. In addition, he had 32 receptions for 298 yards and two touchdowns. He led the conference and was 27th nationally in all-purpose yards with an average of 141.4 per outing. Smith led the SEC in rushing yards per game five consecutive weeks during the middle of the year and finished the season ranked second in the league and 22nd nationally with 107.2 yards per game. He had five 100-yard rushing games, including four in a row (La. Monroe, Florida, Auburn, Kentucky, Ole Miss). He ran for a career-high 192 yards on 35 carries at Kentucky in just over three quarters of play. He rushed for 133 yards against Florida, which was the most allowed by the Gators defense on the season. Smith was named the SEC Offensive Player of the Week for his effort in the 25-22 victory at No. 20 Auburn. In the game, Smith had 35 carries for 176 yards and a 63-yard touchdown run midway through the fourth quarter. He also had two catches for 46 yards and returned a punt for 10 yards. He accounted for 10 of 19 first downs in the game.

2007 (Sophomore): Smith did not start, but saw action in 10 games in relief of All-Americans Darren McFadden and Felix Jones. He did not play against North Texas, Chattanooga or Auburn. He had 46 carries for 303 yards and three touchdowns. His 6.6 yards-per-carry average was second among all backs on the team to Jones’ 8.7-yard average. Smith’s 81-yard touchdown run against Florida International was the team’s longest rush of the season. He also had four receptions for 65 yards (16.2). He had five kick returns for 111 yards (22.2) and two punt returns for minus five yards. – Smith had eight carries for 59 yards and one touchdown, his fourth career, in the season opener against Troy. He also returned two punts for minus five yards. He had the longest Razorback run of the day, going for 48 yards midway through the fourth quarter. That run kept the drive alive and he followed with a two-yard run for a touchdown. He came off the bench against Alabama with three carries for nine yards. His five-yard carry early in the fourth quarter kept a drive alive that led to an Arkansas touchdown. His four-yard run during UA’s final drive led to a first down. In the Kentucky game, Smith tallied five carries for 24 yards with a long of 10. His 10-yard rush late in the first half led to a first down. He recorded a fumble in the second half that was returned for a Kentucky touchdown. He was suspended for the North Texas game due to a violation of team rules and did not play in the Chattanooga or Auburn games. Against Ole Miss, Smith had seven carries for 51 yards with a long of 20. Three of his seven carries were for 10 yards or more. Playing at reserve running back against Florida International, he had three carries for 88 yards, including a career long 81 yarder, and also caught one pass for 19 yards. His 81-yard run was the longest rushing TD of the season for the Hogs. Smith had three carries for 32 yards, including a long of 15, against South Carolina. Two of his three catches were for 10 yards or more and for two first downs. He rushed for 25 yards and caught one pass for 36 yards, a career long, against Tennessee. His catch was also an Arkansas first down. Against Mississippi State, Smith had two runs for four yards, but was more effective returning kickoffs. He returned three kickoffs for a total of 64 yards and a long of 34. Smith did not play against LSU. He had 12 yards on seven rushes against Missouri in the Cotton Bowl.

2006 (Freshman): Smith appeared in 11 games missing only the Alabama, Auburn and South Carolina games in his redshirt freshman season. He rushed 35 times for 247 yards and three touchdowns on the season. His 7.1 yards per carry average ranked second on the team among those backs with double-digit season carries. His three rushing touchdowns ranked third only behind McFadden and Jones. Smith recorded his first 100-yard rushing effort after racking up 116 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries in a non-conference win over Southeast Missouri State. His other rushing touchdown came against Louisiana-Monroe. He made one catch for three yards and returned one kickoff for 48 yards. – Smith rushed three times for 24 yards in his first collegiate game against No. 6 USC. He reeled off a long run of 11 yards against the Trojans. He netted three carries for the second-consecutive week and earned 40 yards against Utah State. He upped his season-long rush to 18 yards. He tallied a then-season-high five carries and gained 28 yards against Vanderbilt. All of his carries against the Commodores came in the fourth quarter. His fresh legs enabled the Razorbacks to run valuable time off the clock in preserving their 21-19 lead late in the game. He netted a 14-yard run against Vanderbilt. He failed to see action for the first time on the season in the Razorbacks’ home win over No. 22 Alabama. He also didn’t log a snap against No. 2 Auburn. He made the most of his extensive playing time racking up a career-high 116 yards rushing and two touchdowns against Southeast Missouri State. He scored on a run of 10 yards on his first attempt and a run of 11 yards on his third attempt of the game. He averaged 14.5 yards per carry against the Redhawks including seven double-digit gains, including a career-long 27-yard run. He also returned a kickoff for 48 yards to set up a UA touchdown. Smith earned Hogwired.com Offensive Player of the Week honors for his efforts. He tied a career-high with eight carries and netted 21 yards in the Razorbacks’ 38-3 win over Ole Miss. His longest run against the Rebels was 10 yards. He matched a career-high with eight carries in the Hogs’ 44-10 win over Louisiana-Monroe, scoring his third touchdown of the season. His run to paydirt came on a three-yard run in the fourth quarter against the Warhawks. Smith did not play at South Carolina. He played late in Arkansas’ 31-14 win over Tennessee, but he didn’t earn a rushing attempt. Smith earned his first career reception on a three-yard pass play against Mississippi State. He didn’t garner a carry against the Bulldogs. He was in several offensive formations, but didn’t earn a rushing attempt against No. 9 LSU. Smith saw action against No. 4 Florida in the SEC Championship Game. He took the field for the Razorbacks against No. 7 Wisconsin in the Capital One Bowl, but didn’t garner a rushing attempt against the Badgers.

2005 (Redshirt): He was a candidate to play as a true freshman, but a pulled hamstring sidelined him early in fall camp. By the time he was full-speed Darren McFadden and Felix Jones had already established their spots in the lineup. He used the 2005 campaign as a redshirt season.

Personal: Born July 28, 1987, he is the son of Michael and Loretta Smith. He is enrolled in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences and is majoring in kinesiology with an emphasis on teaching.

High School: Despite being hampered by an ankle injury as a senior, he racked up more than 800 yards rushing and a total of 15 touchdowns for Coach Algie Hendreith. He also hauled in nearly 400 yards in receiving. He also racked up 979 yards and seven touchdowns as a kick returner. For his efforts, he was named to the first-team All-Big Bend squad. As a junior, he rushed for 1,413 yards and 20 touchdowns. He averaged 11.2 yards per carry in his junior campaign. He recorded a season-long rush of 93 yards and a season-long pass reception of 99 yards as a junior. He also returned three kickoffs and two punts for touchdowns before tearing his ACL in the final game of his junior campaign. He garnered honorable mention Class 3A All-State honors as well as earning first-team All-Big Bend recognition. He also was a baseball standout in high school. He batted .515 and swiped 31 bases as a junior. He had a max squat lift of 515 pounds, a max bench press of 295 pounds and a vertical leap of 34 inches. Rivals.com rated him the No. 13 all-purpose back in the nation and the No. 88 prospect in Florida. In addition to Arkansas, he was recruited by Purdue, Florida, LSU, Auburn and Northwestern.

An absolute pocket rocket, Smith has an electric first step and the second gear to run away from defenders in the secondary. Displays impressive lateral quickness and makes his cuts look effortless as he instantly gets up to full speed. Does a nice job being patient at the line of scrimmage, letting his blockers set up in front of him and jetting into the open field. Smith, however, has a tendency to dance at the line and takes his share of negative plays. Runs with natural pad level and consistently makes himself small through the hole. Obviously, his size is a concern. Is very slight, has a thing frame and lacks the girth expected in an NFL back. He isn't going to push the pile or grind out many tough yards inside, but he looks natural in the pass game and can make plays flexed out, as well. Is a natural runner with great burst and quickness in the open field. Has big-play potential at the next level, but he needs to be used in a small role.
