High School: Graduated from Beddingfield High School in 2005...a four-star player by Rivals.com...rated No. 78 overall player in the country and the No. 3 weakside defensive end in the nation according to Rivals.com...rated the No. 5 player in North Carolina and the state's No. 1 defensive lineman...also rated the No. 5 overall player in North Carolina by Superprep Magazine and the No. 20 defensive lineman nationally...recorded 120 tackles with 16 sacks as a senior...caught 40 passes for 770 yards and 10 touchdowns as a tight end...played in the Shrine Bowl All-Star game...chose Florida State over North Carolina, Virginia Tech, Georgia and NC State.

The Good: An explosive, quick-twitch lineman who gets off the ball quickly and has the ability to consistently reach the corner. Has a long frame with impressive base strength for his size. Displays good body control off the edge with a coordinated spin move and good lateral mobility inside. Is technically sound for an underclassman and uses his arms well on counter moves. The Bad: Might not have the size to hold up as an every down defensive end at the next level. Is being looked at as a 3-4 outside linebacker but has played consistently with his hand on the ground the past two years. Might have some trouble making the transition. Positives: Explosive off the ball. Times up the snap, has a long first step and can overwhelm blockers with his initial burst. Very athletic and displays flexibility and body control to execute a variety of pass-rush moves proficiently. Wields a devastating spin move. Is effective looping and stunting and has too much speed for guards. Uses his hands well to push, pull, tug and club past defenders. Showed nice agility in LB drills at the Combine. Strong work ethic and solid character. Excellent production. Big upside. Negatives: Lacks ideal height and does not play strong against the run. Lacks bulk strength and can do a better job consistently stacking the corner. Often times feasted on tackles in space and most of his production came against inferior competition. Ability to drop off the line into coverage is a bit of a question mark, as he was not asked to do so much in college. Summary: Possesses a physical skill set to intrigue 4-3 teams as a right end or 3-4 teams as a rush linebacker. Showed up surprisingly shorter at the Combine than many teams expected and might not have the length desired in a prototypical rush linebacker but still boasts elite first step quickness, natural pass-rush ability and pure speed to consistently bend the edge at the next level.
