As of THIS moment, I'd say the IPhone with the improved camera, screen resolution and voice recognition, but by next week who knows? It's smaller than the Droid and isn't as fast so there are pros and cons to both. I have a Droid x and love it, it comes with the free gps/nav, the voice command works great with it. I also love the camera with the zoom and macro feature. People can't believe the photos I post on Facebook are from a phone.

I love my droid phone and my iPad. I really don't see much of a difference between the 2, but I don't use the phone for much other than web surfing and texting. I can tell you that the iPhones I have used are super fast though!

BTW Bart, There was a little controversy going around about that "Smoked by a Windows Phone" promotion. Guess some doing the promotion started changing the rules in the middle or even after the competition was over.
Looks like Microsoft made good on it now though.

Very cool sig! Huge WP fan here. Getting my Titan II on Monday. MS has a very strong mobile OS. I would encourage all of you Google/Apple fans to give it a look. Great user interface, the live tiles are innovative and MS Office in integrated. Also, the wider selection of handsets. Apple still rocks that same old tired form factor.
The real game changer will be the launch of the next version (apollo) and Microsoft's tablets.

Compared to Apple they offer a wider selection of handsets. I think Windows Phone is a nice in between option to Apple. It's a closed platform, minimal fragmentation (so far) but with multiple OEM's to choose from. The OS also has a simplicity to it. I've felt like Google is a bit more complicated for the average user.
However, both Apple & Google have had very good marketing campaigns. Microsoft (with Nokia's help) is finally becoming more agressive in this segment.
The tiles do take getting use to. Espicially if your running Windows 8 consumer preview. Which is truly designed for (in my opinion) a touch screen.

It shouldn't go unnoted that WP is benefitting greatly from Android due to:
1) A large number of handset makers paying licensing fees of up to $10 per Android handset sold (See Motorola, HTC, and and up to half of total Android device makers). It's said that Microsoft makes more money for each Android phone sold than it does from sales of their WP's.
2) Many of the phones being put out (with the exception of Nokia) are multiplatfor based devices. In most cases, Android's device is released first, with a sibling device also released for Android. As of now, Nokia is the main WP exclusive manufacturer. Being able to sell a line of hardware on several platforms lowers development costs and saves the consumer money.
As for Android, Samsung, Motorola (now owned by Google) and Sony are the big Android exclusive makers (primary high end devices, not including proprietary OS devices).
Competition is good and the consumers ultimately win. The battle of lawsuits that's been going on for the past couple years between Apple, Microsoft, and everyone else is driving up costs and stiffling innovation. I hope it comes to end sooner than later, but I doubt it will.

The Titan II is manufactured by HTC. It has a 4.7 inch super LCD screen. It has a design similar to the Galaxy Nexus.

You're probably right. I'm not too familiar with HTC's new One lineup. It was just announced at MWC and I don't think it even has a release date yet. HTC is mirroring the Samsung Galaxy branding strategy.
I really wish the Titan II had a higher screen resolution. I think Samsung makes fantastic screens!

Nice little review of the Nokia Lumia 900 from Windows Phone Central.
It's going to be tough to beat for $99. While not cutting edge tech like some other phones out or upcoming in the next month or so, it's really tough to beat at that price. I think WP fans will eat it up.

This subject always frustrates me.
As we get older, we are less and less technology literate. No longer are we expected to understand how our computers, phones, and devices work, we just expect them to function an an easy, standard, and digestible way.
There is a droid phone that will out perform an iphone on ANY quantifiable measure, with the exception of app support and maybe battery life. There are droids that outperform iphones in Camera, Video, screen size, data speeds, etc. They just may be more finicky and/or difficult.
It's like computers. People don't know what they are doing with windows, it gets overloaded with crap, and suddenly, it's "terrible" compared to apple. Well of course it looks that way.
If you want the best of something (In terms of quantifiable measures), then go for the droid. If you want something easy to understand that everyone else has, go for the iphone.

Here are my experiences with both phones...
iPhone - I got an iPhone 3G back in the day and I freakin' LOVED that phone! It replaced an old flip-phone that I had so just finally having a smart phone was awesome. I had the 3G for a little over two years... The problems started with iOS 4. I don't think they should have ever released it for the 3G - the phone was completely inadequate for it. Slowed WAY down and became just incredibly frustrating to use. I would try and send a text message and just start typing while the screen/keyboard was frozen. Halfway through the message, the phone would "catch up."
Finally I had enough and decided to make the switch to Android - and Verizon.
Samsung Galaxy S Fascinate - I really dug the phone for the first few months that I had it. The screen was amazing and it was SO much faster than my old iPhone! Verizon and Samsung really dragged their feet on the Android 2.2 (Froyo) update, which ticked me off because when I got the phone, the Verizon rep told me the release was "imminent." Right... I wanted my mobile Flash, damn it! More on that later...
As more time went on, I put more and more apps and games on the Fascinate. And this thing started slowing WAY down. It was annoying and starting to become even less responsive than my old iPhone. I decided I needed to start fresh. I downloaded a custom ROM that automatically rooted the phone and cleared out all the Verizon bloatware. That's what I've been using for almost a year now and for the most part, it's been good. I love having the phone rooted and using the wireless tether!
But there are some problems... I would say that at least once a week, I need to completely reboot the phone because it's frozen. And I mean COMPLETELY reboot - taking the battery out and everything. It's annoying. I've also been on a call that's suddenly gone dead - I look at the screen and it says "phone.app has crashed." Um... Really? In the meantime I've gotten an iPad and it's pretty amazing how good iOS 4/5 is with enough processing power.
There are pros and cons to each, but I'll be getting an iPhone 4S in a couple weeks. My company is switching from BlackBerry since we now offer iOS apps and we'll need to demo them to potential customers. Work is paying for it so my Android phone is going bye bye. I'll miss some parts (like the wireless tether - definitely have to look into jailbreaking) but I'm looking forward to a more stable phone experience.
I just got the iPhone 4s a few days ago and love it. I had a droid for 2 years and loved it but it was time for a upgrade and I decide to go iPhone just because I love apple products and every other electronic device I own is apple. Either way you will enjoy what you get they are both good phones.

I still have the original motorola droid and it's still functioning very well (over 2 years old). They are smart enough to stop updating the OS so the phone doesn't cripple itself because of the lack of power.
I'm looking to upgrade now and will go droid again. The iphone is fine but it lacks some serious features that the droid has... like the back button. I find the iphone frustrating only having the home button. The iphone also has very few free apps. I have paid for exactly 2 apps. A mantis app for work (3 bucks) and a marine navigation app (10 bucks, and it provides $300 worth of functionality). Every other app I have is free and many are not on the apple store (like an app I love, craigslist app).
I like having the keyboard too because I can use the pad to navigate on sites that have flyout menus... it also provides a bigger physical platform to hold while surfing the web. I have NEVER found a web site I could not browse... forget mobile sites, the full version is what I go for because it works so well.
For an average user that doesn't want to learn a new technology, maybe the iphone is better. For someone with any kind of tech skills... go droid.
I also have a cheap ($190) Vizio tablet that is droid based and everything is in synch between the two which is pretty awesome. it's also nice to be able to give the tablet to the kids to watch movies on, play games, etc. and not be paranoid about a $500+ device.

I should ask what provider you are on or will be on? Also, what phone are you coming from.
If you'd like to stay with the BBery style of keyboard, there are Android phones that have the same form factor.
Overall, though, if someone else is footing the bill I'd go with an iPhone or a high-end Android phone. Both will do what you want, it'll come down to what you prefer.

For what you do, I would say iPhone. However, Droid does have a MUCH better navigation with turn-by-turn directions. So if you are leaning between the two and want to rely on your phone for a navigation device more than a few times a month, I would go with the Droid.

I had a droid for 2 years. Got an iPhone 6 months ago...I am extremely happy about my decision and will not go back to Droid. And I was moderately happy with my Droid.
I know 4 people now who had an iPhone, got a Droid, and returned the Droid within a week to go back to an iPhone.
I'm telling you man, get an iPhone...why, cause it's way better at functioning with the things that you actually care about most. It won't ever put you a bad mode for not working properly either. Do it...iPhone, bacardi coke....do it!

I know people who have gone in both directions: hated their iPhone/loved their Droid and vice versa. In the end, I think it comes down to personal preference and how comfortable you are with technology.
My preference for Droid might be because that is what I started out with. We have iPhones on our work accounts and I've become very familiar with iOS. I'm simply just not a fan. I use 4G on my personal phone almost constantly so that's probably part of what drives my preference. I don't find the Droid operating system to be tough to maneuver at all.
Maybe it's too simple of an observation but the former Droid owners I hear the most gripes from had a Motorola. Both Droids I've had were/are HTC phones. The only reason I gave up my first HTC (EVO 4G) was because I was eligible for an upgrade to the EVO 3D and I've been extremely happy with my HTC phones.
I've used Apple products for years. I've owned pretty much every iPod that was created. I have a drawer full of them. I was pretty close to being that guy that puts Apple stickers on his car.
A few years ago I got the original Droid, only because we had Verizon at the office and the Verizon iPhone was only a myth at that time. I was definitely NOT happy with the Droid. The android os was fairly new at that time and it didn't have any of the consumer features that iTunes offered. But slowly I began to appreciate the features that android did have (widgets, turn by turn navigation, voice search, notification bar, folders, multi-tasking, wireless syncing, OTA updates). Granted iOS has added some of those features now, but it didn't have it then.
Now the android system has grown tremendously. Granted most apps are still made for the iPhone and then ported to android. But android has most of the same apps as the iPhone. Plus the android market (now Google Play) offers most of those same consumer options (movies, books, music, and of course apps) that iTunes offers. And I can browse their market from my office computer (or any computer for that matter), make a purchase, and send it to my phone. I still don't think you can do that with iTunes. Or I can use Amazon.com to do the same thing.
My kids use Apple products and love them. I've used my daughter's iPhone 4S and my son's iPod touch. Both are very cool. But I've realized that I now like the android system better. I love the larger screen on my new Droid; not having to flick through pages of apps to get what I want; having widgets that give me updates on the homescreen; and the overall customization that allows me to make my phone different than everyone else's phone.
Both Android and the iPhone are great options. But the choice for anyone comes down to personal preference.
And by the way, the reason I have a drawer full of iPods is that none of them worked anymore. I had to keep buying new iPods because each one would crap out after a couple of years. I was so blinded by my allegiance to Apple to notice that their products have flaws just like every other gadget. After all, nearly all tech products now are made in the same Chinese factory.
I was actually told by an Apple Genius at the Apple store (after my iPod Photo died), that the iPods are designed to only last a few years. Which as a consumer is very disappointing to hear.

Valid point. Although I have used a couple of different versions of the iPhone, I have not owned an iPhone. However, I have owned an iPod Touch, which is very similar (less the obvious phone features) and uses the same iOS.
I understand the features of an iPhone. I simply prefer Android. It took me some time to break away from Apple, but Droid phones are my preference now.

I had a droid x for over a year. I hated that phone. It was awful I got an iPhone in December and have yet to have a problem. It works, like it should, every time. It's well built. I'll have no problem getting this thing to last, 2 3, years or more. Good luck even getting a year out of a droid.

Well, how 'bout this. I get a 25% discount with Sprint and am ready to give up my old flip phone. Don't need a phone for work. Don't play games. Would probably like the Nav feature and the ability to get on the web, but don't see spending a huge amount of time doing that. Would probably do some texting but not like a 20 year old would. What would you guys suggest through Sprint?

you are a perfect candidate for the iPhone. I'm serious man...you will like.
iPhone 4S has a phenomenal camera. The best of any. My older kids have them.
On the other hand, I just purchased the RAZR Maxx for a work phone. There was a learning curve, and there are a few things I liked better on my three year old BB, but there would be some things I liked on BB better than Apple to.
Reasons for Razr Maxx
1) 4G LTE data speeds, particular important when I am tethering at kids sports practices etc. iPhone doesn't offer that. What's funny is that my son showed me his iphone today and it said "4G" on it. I did a quick search and saw that Apple only changed the signal indicator to 4G just today, to coincide with the release of the new iPad. The actual data speeds are no faster and they are not LTE.
2) Apps to tether (connect my laptop to the internet via my cell phone) and turn my cell phone into a mobile hotspot (PDAnet) for only the cost of the app. You will need to jailbreak your iPhone to do this, which is not a big deal I hear, but then you have given up one of your arguments against the Android OS.
3) Bigger screen. I was worried that the 4.3" screen would be too big, but I love it now. The Samsung Nexus on Verizon has an HD screen, but I had other concerns about that phone.
4) Call Quality. A phone is the number one purpose of my device. Call quality is great, speaker phone is great. It's easy to switch to speaker, mute, conference in others etc. I get a signal in my building at work where I had none with my BB. My friends tell me that they used to have a difficult time hearing me. I've had the phone about 10 days and I have taken maybe seven pictures, zero videos and played no games.
5) Large Battery - Double the size of the RAZR.
What I don't like is the massive disclaimer whenever I want to download an apps that basically says I will give up everything, but I expect Apple is no different.

I have no choice, I have to get an Android phone.
I have narrowed it down to order of preference to:

2- HTC DNA: CNET seems to like it. The guy at Verizon showed it to me and it is monstrous.
3- Razr Maxx: a little expensive. I can settle on the Razr HD.

I'd like to see how the Droid DNA does with battery life in its retail form. The battery criticism is really the only knock on the phone right now, and the reviews were pretty mixed on that. Those Verizon phones were discussed in this thread:

As for the phones being big, you definitely get accustomed to it. I don't think I could go back to having a phone with a screen size under 4.3" anymore. The extra real estate is very nice for gaming and watching movies.
I will never go back to a phone smaller than 4.5" The phone was charged for 1 hour this morning and has been on since yesterday and I am at 21% battery. I have been using off and on.So I really like it with my new rom. The GS3 does not feel cheap to me.I did put mine in a Trident case.

The guy that runs Highonandroid.com had a give away and he picked me yesterday. Look at my google+ account Marshall Griffiss. I posted the you tube video from yesterday. He sent me a email yesterday and it should be shipped soon. I am sooOOOOO looking forward to it.
We ended up getting Razr M today for wife and myself. I'm mad the Nexus was no longer free but I think it will work out.

I loved my Galaxy Nexus. The battery life was not. I am not sure about the Razr M check droid-life.com
