Yep, been keeping  up on it on AndroidCentral.  If it delivers on promises of full wifi back-ups (including data) WITHOUT requring a root, that would be very impressive and a worth-while app.

I would agree with this.  As much as I love my GS3, it doesn't make sense to get one right now with the GS4 coming soon.  GS4 could start being unveiled as soon as March.

GS3 is quite a device, though.  Even if you decide the upgrade cost for the GS4 is too high or isn't worth it for you, the GS3 will probably end up being nearly free with contract once the GS4 is announced and released.

There are rumors of a new iPhone coming out in the next 6 months as well, but I'd take those with a grain of salt.

Why?  They almost always do an "s" version after the major release.  I wouldn't be surprised at all to see a 5S come out. 
Or are they all concerned wth the iWatch they''ll stop worrying about phones?

It hasn't been a full year since the iPhone 5 release, so Apple is starting to shorten their time between releases to keep up with the Joneses.  The "new iPad" only lasting 4 months before they released the iPad 4 (and completely dropped the "new iPad") might be a sign of a new trend, who knows.

I would say wait for the S4 but like DMM, I also have the S3 GSM version and I love it. I will be on a Note 2 in a few days. The S3 is a Very good phone and is fast.

Yep, the nice thing for him is his contract is up in March so the most he'd have to wait is a month.

If he has a Costco membership, he could always go buy a GS3 as soon as his contract is up, then go and exchange it for a GS4 when it's available (if it is released within 90 days of the purchase of his GS3), if he really needed a new phone quickly.  Costco does tend to tale a couple weeks longer than regular brick and mortar retailers to get their phones in.

I have done that in the past with the Samsung Infuse/Galaxy S2 and the HTC One X/Galaxy S3.

few questions:

is there any legit gossip/rumor out on the Galaxy s4 or iphone 5s?
is there a way to effectively use the iphone without installing or using itunes?  i'm leery of installing itunes.
can a jailbroken iphone be used as a mobile hotspot without incurring extra carrier fees (similar to FoxFi on android)?

i'd say i'm an android power user, but have grown tired of battery issues and random reboots with my vzw galaxy nexus.  so thinking about switching to the dark side (apple) so i can have a phone that does some basic stuff like stay on... and make calls.

Which one did you get BMN?  I can't recall.

The new batch of phones start to come out next month (New Samsung, HTC, and possibly Motorola will start being unveiled).

1.  Nope, no info on either the GS4 or next iPhone yet.

2.  You will likely need to have access to iTunes in some capacity to properly use the iPhone (whether it be for back-ups, manual updates, etc).

3.  Yes, a jailbroken iPhone can be used as a mobile hotspot.  The app costs money.  Most of the jailbreak apps do, and are usually not cheap (reguarly over $10).

The battery issues with the Galaxy Nexus were evident early on.  The GS4 and iPhone 5 have had comparable battery life.  I spent a lot of time at the hospital this past week and my sister was there the whole time I was.  I have a GS4, she has an iPhone 5.  I never had to charge my phone while at the hospital, but she did usually towards the end of the afternoon.  She texts more than I do, but I was playing games on mine.

There's no telling what we're going to get with the GS4.  I'd imagine any update to the iPhone 5 will be slight incremental improvement over the last one (processor, camera).

Understood.

Had a buddy of mine finally take the plunge and switch from iPhone to Android (GS3) in October.  He's had every iPhone up to the 4 since they launched in 2007.  Took him a few weeks to get used to things, but he loves Android and the GS3.  He's running stock Jellybean (unrooted) and has not complained of any battery issues or glitches.  Early on, if ANYTHING didn't work the way he wanted it to, he'd call me and ask me.  Glitches have never been one of those things.

YMMV, of course, but figured I'd mention it at the very least.

The old android software ie.(gingerbread and below) was awful compared to Jelly Bean. Android is so much better with JB. Much faster and smoother. I have not had any glitches, except the ones I cause byt flashing different roms and kernals. I was running stock JB on my Note 2 up until last night. Ran smooth with NO Problems. I just wanted a few more features that dont come with stock. The GS3 is a GREAT phone. I have heard the GS4 will be coming out in late April but no one really knows yet.

I turn my car on, bluetooth kicks in. All of a sudden, the Music Player (pre installed one) starys playing music in my library. This has recently started to happen. Turns on all by itself.

How the eff can I stop it? Droid charge, gingerbread I think.
