Depends on what it is.  Have you figured out what the main battery drain (largest % of partial wake lock) is?  If so, let me know what it is, I may be able to help with it.

In general, once you find out what's giving you problems, there are a few things you can do.

1.  Uninstall the app

2.  Open the app and adjust the settings.  Usually apps that sync data or use GPS are problematic.  They usually also have settings to switch to manual sync.

3.  Do some research on the app and see if there are any app-specific things others have done to alleviate potential problems.

It's good to support the developer.  Otherwise, Google "XDA Betterbatterystats" and find the offical XDA thread for it from the developer.  He has the app (apk file) free on the 2nd post of that thread.

Looks like another Siri contender on Android is emerging.  This one is still in beta, but looks promising.  I won't have an Android phone until this weekend, so I can't try it and comment on it beyond what I saw in the videos I've seen thus far.

That's what I've read.  It's still a beta, so I'd imagine it will need some tweaking.

I'm still always surprised at how quickly the SpeakToIt Assistant team got that one running quickly and kept adding features.  Hopefully team Robin can do the same.

NYGA, Gettin a Galaxy S3 on At&T. I like the HTC One X, but not having a micro SD card slot was a deal breaker for me.

Tex, some have started rolling out in the past couple months. Every manufacturer is rolling out on their own schedule. Unless you are rooted and know how to flash ROMs yourself, you will have to wait. I had an ICS ROM on my GS2 since February and loved it. Made losing my phone hurt that much more.

I have the EVO 3D and it's supposed to get the ICS update. Thought about rooting this EVO like I did my old one but I haven't gotten around to it. My Galaxy Tab 10.1 is rooted and I've thought about flashing the ICS ROM on there. How is ICS?

ICS is pretty good. Seems to have performance and battery life updates, but the major overhaul in the UI. apps look great on both Phones and Tablets, which is nice. I'm running it on my tablet and it's nice. Looks more similar to Honeycomb than Gingerbread.

It's nice, but not critical.

This is the one area iOS has a big jump on Android:  easy and uniform updates across all carriers.  Why Google is letting the carriers dick around with updates is beyond me.  I keep hoping they'll put their foot down, but they don't.  The alternative is to get a Nexus device directly from Google, but that isn't always practical.

I'm a free agent. Well, 2 of my four lines are out of contract.The other 2 run out on 09/05/12. Sprint will charge me $100($50 per line) ETF if I bolt.  I pay about $216 with Sprint. Thinking about going to AT&T since they offer us 22% emp. disc. I am down to HTC or Samsang Galaxy III. Now I hear I should wait for Verizon's share data plans. I will get 4 lines with unlimited voice & text for around the same price as AT&T($225). Which phone should I target with Verizon? Verizon also offers us 20% emp. disc. We don't use large amount of data.

We are currently with AT&T.  We have 4 lines (well 5 lines now, as I got my new phone tonight, an HTC One X as a temporary phone) and our monthly bill is $203 after taxes with 4 lines and 2GB Data plans on each (all smart phones) and a 20% discount.

I was with Sprint for about 9 years when I finally left.  Service has been a big improvement.  No dropped calls, data speed is so much faster, and our bill is actually cheaper as part of this family plan.

Verizon is going to be a little pricier.  The share data plan only works if you don't use much data.  If that's the case, that one is fine.  I am not a fan of this style of billing, though, but there are some benefits:  free hotspot ability without rooting or jailbreaking and unlimited calling and messaging.

As for phones, all HTC One X variants are amazing.  The Galaxy S3 matches it in nearly every category, except maybe the screen.  Some have said the HTC One X is the best screen out there.  I have it sitting next to my wife's iPhone 4s and my temporary iPhone 4 and it puts them to shame in brightness and crispness.  Absolutely gorgeous.

The Galaxy S3 will also have a bigger battery and is expandable via Micro USB.

Here's a helpful tip:  If you are on the fence about the device, Costco offers a 90 day exchange policy, no questions asked.  I used this last year (got an Infuse a few weeks before the Galaxy S3 came out so I didn't have to start a new month with Sprint).  I plan on exchanging my shiny new HTC One X for a GS3, IF I find that the battery life and limited internal memory are just too much to bear.

I'd recommend going this route if you are on the fence.  This will allow you to test out your devices, regardless of which you pick.  If you aren't a Costco Member, you can still buy online via their Online store.  You don't need to be a member to use the site.  The problem with that option, though, is you won't be able to exchange in store (you have to be a member to access the store) and you'd have to ship it back to exchange.

they are paying you $75 for Evos?  You can get more than that selling them on Craigslist ... although it may not be worth the effort to you, depending on the condition on the condition of the devices.  Heck, Bav on here (moderator) may want to buy one off you, as he broke his screen and is currently using my old HTC Hero right now.

As for the breakdown, we currently have the 700 minutes w/ roll over plan for $48, then $30 for family texting plan (better value for more lines).  Each person pays $20 for data, and $9.99 for each line addition. 

That comes out to $48 + $30 + 4x($20 + $10) = $198.  The 20% discount pretty much covers tax and additional fees, so our total comes out to be $203 when it's all said and done.  My wife's and my portion comes out to be $60, which is less than half of what we were paying for Sprint.

I'm almost sure I'm done with Sprint. been with them for over 10 years now. They called me today and offered me $159 credit plus $65 each for my Evos. However, they would not give me a 20% discount on entire plan. The 20% is only for the $129 two lines. Nothing off the next two lines or their $40 4G fees. 4G fee is now called the Smartphone fee. I guess I will be paying $100 ETF for two of my lines at the end of the month. My monthly bill with Sprint is $216 with emp. discount of 20%.

Hmm, must be.  I see it's $69.99 for that now.  My sis has had it for a little while now.

Also, looks like any 4G LTE phones will be $30 a month, not $20.  That's the same price as with Verizon, though.  That wasn't the case a while back, but looks like it's now standard with all 4G LTE phones on AT&T.

I sometimes hate the free agency period. It is almost as bad as buy a new car. You know someone is out there that is looking to bend you over. AT&T just told me they dont know if my 22% discount applies to the "data" plans. Might be for "voice" only. Could not tell me for sure until I purchase the phones and the plan. Had no idea when they would release their "shared" data plan to compete with Verizon. I think Verizon might be a option now, since Since their "high" priced plans might be similar to Sprint and AT&T.

Yeah, that's the problem with the whole "contract" thing.  If you buy your phones outright, you don't have to get locked into any contracts and can switch as you see fit.  It's not as easy in the states, as the only major GSM carriers are AT&T and T-Mobile, and not all devices are compatible between the two.  CDMA phones aren't nearly as network friendly.

Apple hasn't announced the new iPhone at WWDC in 3 years, with the iPhone 4.  My guess is we'll see a minor update with a case redesign and added LTE.  Rumors are the processor will remain the same, battery may be bigger though.

As for Apple's new mapping software, it's got a steep hill to climb.  Most reports I've read are groaning about it.  It doesn't work offline like Google Maps does (at least on Android).  I found out an interesting tidbit about Google Maps for iOS.  Apparently it's written by Apple, not Google.  Apple people that complain that it doesn't have most of the features (turn by turn navigation, voice assist, measure and scale tools, additional layers, offline settings, etc) that the Android version does, but that is because Google didn't write that app.  Apple writes their first party apps. 

Rumor is that Google mayrelease a new 3rd party Google Maps app  once their Map app is removed from iOS.

I didn't realize how much I used, or depended on, Google Maps when I had my Android phone.  I've had an iPhone the past few weeks after losing my Galaxy S2 on a drunken bachelor party weekend in Atlanta.  Had to use the iPhone to get directions to our hotel in St Augustine and the interface on the Map app is terrible and incredibly limited.  The "directions" map mode isn't very good and doesn't update the route if you have to detour.  Had to let my wife drive so I could navigate.  I then decided to try WAZE on iPhone, but it doesn't allow typing when you're driving. 

iPhone is definitely in need of a full-service map and navigation app, we'll see if Apple's new venture works out.
