Helmet, first day after I did my first chest/tri workout, I literally couldn't wash my hair the next day my arms hurt so much.  It sucked.

I have never had that happen before or after that.  It was awful.

I just  looked it up. If I understand correctly, you're doing 60 sets and 600 reps. That's a crapload of volume.

I don't know how much you looked up but he only hits upperbody and lower body at most two times a week. It's really not that much IMO. Having done BFL, I just don't like that you do every muscle group in the same workout. I also never understood why he only does 6 sets of the same exercise and the last set of 12 is a different movement.  As long as his diet is good, he will drop weight and add muscle.IMO, diet is at least 80 percent of it.

His workout looks like this:

Week1: M (U) T(C) W (L) T (C) F (U) S(C)
Week2: M (L) T(C) W (U) T (C) F (L) S(C)
Week 3: Back to week 1

1/9 6:16 PM | IP: Logged

correct, sets are 12-10-8-6-12-12 increasing weight slightly and doing a different exercise concentrating on the same muscle group in the last set.

chest-back-shoulder-triceps-biceps for the upperworkout

thighs-quads-calves-abs for the lower workout

typical week, Monday-Wednesday-Friday will be weights, rotating upper to lower, starting lower the following week, vice versa

Tuesday - Thursday - Sunday - 20 minutes of cardio, it calls for that to ramp as well but I'm just doing 30 minutes total, no rampup.

Saturday each week - no exercise - and its a day to get my drink on and enjoy all the food I'm missing during the week.
1/9 6:45 PM | IP: Logged

Upper workout took about 40 minutes, lower workout took about 35 (says 45 for each).

I thought eating every 2 1/2 hours would be hard, but by Day 3, my stomach already starts growling at about the 2:15 mark.

lots of lean ground beef patties, chicken breasts (with bit of salsa, mustard, bbq sauce) for the protein portion.

plain rice, fruit, fruit and more fruit for the carb portion.

I didn't want to waste a bunch of money on supplements but I did splurge and am gonna buy a half dozen EAS bars and a half dozen EAS shakes to replace 2 meals a day so I am not having to prepare food 24/7.

couple boiled eggs and a piece of fruit or cottage cheese with fruit for breakfasts.

My one vice so far, and I'm just going to deal with it, I am a diet soda freak, I know it isn't good for me but I have to have it.  Have gone from about a 6 a day down to 3 a day.

Been rocking the MIO to be able to do the 10 glasses of water a day.  MIO sweet tea is the bomb.

and...yes...I had a hard time getting dressed this morning after the upper workout.

So far so good.  One bit of advice, if I may, about the diet soda.  You've cut down and are drinking a lot of water which is great but diet sode is probably worse for you than regular soda.  Drinking it is a habit like any other.  If there is anything I'd try to change is getting off of that and just force yourself to drink water...

This. Cut out soda completely. I had a doctor prescribe me a medication a few years ago that interacted with the taste of any soda, so I quit then. He said the earlier you can kick soda the better!! And diet is worse! -especially when dieting.

Just drink your crown straight instead :)

1/10 3:22 PM | IP: Logged
I LOVE diet coke or coke zero, but knowing how bad it is for you, I gave it up this past summer, in June or July. I haven't had a soda since. There are times when I still crave one, but I haven't given in. I now drink, water, coffee (black with 2 tsp of sugar), and Sobe vitamin water.
1/10 4:10 PM | IP: Logged

6" and 247.  I actually started this early when the post first came up.  I was 253 a few weeks before Christmas and my goal was to make it out of Christmas, New Years and a short vacation last week, and still be under 250. Mission accomplished.

Let's shoot for 220 by the end of 90 days.  Would like to be about 205-210 eventually.  I was 270 on my wedding day 17 years ago, and made it all the way down to the 190s about ten years ago on Atkins.  Slowly but surely put a lot of it back on as I watched my diet more and I got older.

I've tried to Atkins it a couple times since then, but it just doesn't work the same way as it did the first time.  It was like magic last time, but again, I'm older now.

My main strategy is to just drastically cut down the amount of food I eat, and most snacking. Obvious, right? I've come to the conclusion I just have to eat like a normal person.  I'm going to give myself a little extra leeway on the weekends, to keep from going crazy.  But if I can go five days of a nice caloric deficit, and just hold serve on the weekend, I think I'll be ok. Exercise will help, but I really need to drop some lbs just to be able to run.  I did a little running last summer, and it's just excrutiating on my legs.  If I'm down to the 220 range by this summer, I think I can pick it back up.

My main strategy is not a straight Atkins, but to keep my carbs kind of minimal and stay away from pure junk like chips and such.  Multigrain bagel? Ok once in a while, also some fruit, but not going to chow down some Fritos.  Keeping the carbs to a minimum is key to controlling my appetite.

1/10 6:04 PM | IP: Logged
Alright,  I am a few days late seeing this.  I'll get my fat ass into this thing.  I've put on 30 pounds since moving to Florida a little over a year ago.  So I'll make 30 lbs my goal in 90 days ... er 86? days.  Currently 222.

How bad in light beer on Saturdays for you? Regardless of what you guys say I'm still going to drink it.

But seriously, my goal is to do great Monday-Friday. Drink a little on Saturday night and eat it off on Sunday.

Almost a week down. Lost 4lbs so far. It's mainly from having a decent diet for the past 4 days. I hit the gym this morning and have had much better energy levels throughout the day. Which begs the question, why the eff do I fall off the wagon os easily? Anyway, happy Friday all! #feelsgoodman.

Pretty dramatic for 5 days, my initial thoughts were just water weight, but I am drinking a gallon of water a day...shrugs

Tomorrow. I am not going to gourge all day, not going to snack..just going to have three unhealthy meals

Thinking Metro Diner in the morning for sausage gravy and biscuits
A Chicken Ranch Sandwich with Texas Cheese Fries for lunch
and...fajita nachos from our fave mexican place for dinner

YAY ME!!!

Followed by several of these after each meal...

It probably is water weight helmet, drinking lots of water will cause you to lose weight.

Your body gets used to your cycle, if it knows you don't drink a lot of water, it holds onto as much as it can (IIRC soda dehydrates you); but when you're properly hydrating yourself it doesn't hold onto any, and even lets go of its stores.  The idea with fat, carbs, etc is similar.  You eat every couple of hours not only to speed up your metabolism, but it trains your body so that it won't need to freak out and store as much as it can like it does when you're only eating a few times a day.

I've pretty much let myself go as much as I possibly can, so I decided to diet this year too.  Since the 2nd, been eating perfect so far; just chicken breast, little sirloin, little salmon, some turkey, lots of broccoli, spinach, snap peas, protein shakes and bars.  I also find a handful of roasted, unsalted almonds gives me a little jolt of energy in between some meals.

Might treat myself to something Sunday, but so far I've managed to flavor the food well enough so that my tongue doesn't feel the diet that much.

Been walking a lot, 12+ miles so far; not sure if my body is ready for a full on weight workout, was planning to add some light weights in February, just need to get some weight off first though.

But I'm weighing myself once a week on Weds mornings, and in my first weigh-in I lost 10.2 pounds.

1/11 8:57 PM | IP: Logged I graduated high school 10 years ago around 210 pounds. through college and post college i really just let myself go. I Started a couple months into 2012 really taking fitness and well being serious. I had hit a low spot in my life and was tipping the scales at 303. I was drinking all the time, eating anything and everything, and exercise was the farthest from my mind. I joined a class called ferrells here in Iowa. It was 6 days a week, 45 min long classes. Mostly an even mixture of strength training and kick boxing. I completed the 10 weeks and lost exactly 50 pounds. Since class ended back in August, I have done a good job of keeping up with working out. I average 3x a week of cardio and strength training sprinkled in. I did dig up some before and afters. I am currently at 231 this morning. I am looking to get down to 220 by summer time. The pounds are not melting off like they use to but it just requires me to work harder. When I was at my heaviest, I honestly just assumed I would never get down this low again. It is very possible with some serious hard work and dedication. I wish everyone the very best and will kick in advice tips anywhere I can on what worked for me. I don't take pics alone so the only pics I could find are with my beautiful wife that somehow stuck with me through this wild ride.

Gilchrist - Right now I'm only trying to "fine tune" and become more lean, but I was a big, fat guy in high school (250+ pounds). In college I decided that I didn't want to be the "fat guy" any more, so I dieted hard and exercised. I lost 70 pounds my freshman year and have been able to keep most of it off for the last 20+ years. The key is finding a lifestyle that works for you.

Well my lifestyle this morning says sausage gravy amd biscuits, yayyyyy cheat day.  Gonna wait til noon to have a cocktail, though that thought crossed my mind this morning too.
1/12 7:52 AM | IP: Logged Gilchrist- making this kind of transformation with my life has been more than just about losing weight. I more or less got my life back. There is so much you are going to experience throughout this journey and as mentioned before, am willing to give help where I can

1st step- willingness to make a change. My college habits were horrible. I loved my beer and I loved my greasy food. Sure who doesn't right, but I struggled controlling them in moderation. I was at the point where I would recommend a buffet crappy food over quality food, just because I could eat all that I wanted. What I do want to tell you is that I do commend you for taking the first steps. It's interesting how you mentioned the you found the girl you want to be with and want to get healthy for her. That is fantastic and if she is anything like my lady, she will be 100% supportive. Heck I don't even know you, but I've got faith in you. People that have never weighed as much as we have don't understand what it's like. Keep up the good work

Tell you what though, my dinner tonight was pretty killer, diet or not.  Seared some lean sirloin in a cast iron skillet with no oil and S&P, finished in the oven.  Roasted some white mushrooms that were coated in olive oil, and S&P.  Then sauteed some kale with olive oil and S&P.  Kale may not be for everyone, but I really like it, and it's quick.  That dinner was pretty tasty.

Don't frwg, based on what you've said in this thread you're trying to shed those last few pounds, and you're also doing some light weightlifting, correct?

Well in that case going a week or period of time without losing a pound isn't bad, you could have very easily lost a pound or so of fat that was offset by a pound or so of muscle. In your situation, I would worry more about how your clothes fit from one week to the next then your weight, IMO.

When and how often do you weigh yourself?

Now for the fatties like me, if we go a week at the beginning and don't lose anything, then it's time to worry.

I was 200-210lbs and in good shape until this past year when I had a nasty bike accident which put me down for a few months. I healed up and continued to lift weights and play volleyball routinely but my diet has been terrible plus I'm addicted to sweets. I've been eating all veggies and lean meats that I cook myself and haven't had any processed foods.  I weighed 218.4 this morning which highlights how bad my diet has been because I was probably taking in 4000+cals a day but my weight lifting and activity level keeps me from getting really fat. I did cheat last night and have some ice cream but adjusted my other meals to incorporate the calories.  I would like to get down to 200lbs in the next few months and keep it off with healthy eating habits.

I won't lie I actually gained 2 pounds, my weight tends to fluctuate and I ate like crap this weekend bc we were out of town, I weigh almost everyday I know you aren't supposed to but it's a compulsion for me. I didn't weigh over the weekend. I am going from my last weight on Monday, I did weigh .5 pound less sometime during the week and then 2 pounds more this am. Sucks, I didn't exercise Friday or Sunday. Going to run 4 miles now though!

Well you gotta stop weighing yourself everyday. Not only will it give you erratic results, it can affect your morale. Pick one day a week and weigh yourself at basically the same time that day.

Your weight fluctuates from day to day, and even morning to night.

That's even truer for women.
