It didn't get a lot of attention but on the 2008 Olympic team that defense was built around Dwight being there in the middle. When he was on the bench they weren't the same defensive team. He was that valuable. His offense is good enough but his defense is what every team would love to have.

The question will be is his back strong enough.

I think the Rockets may of screwed themselves with this Jeremy Lin nonsense.

The Knicks called their bluff, went out and got as good if not more proven pg in Felton for about 30% of what Houston offered Lin.

3rd yr at $14 mill, if Howard doesn't go to the Rockets, they are in deeeeepppp doodoo.
7/16 8:15 AM | IP: Logged In theory I agree, too bad in 2008 Howard couldn't stop fouling people, especially against Spain both games. 5 rpg and 1 bpg didn't exactly light it up. USA won gold playing small ball in 2008 as a result.

In one sense I thought rockets made a great move to screw Knicks. But on the court clearly he's not worth that much in one season.
Still Rockets are rebuilding and have some exciting rookies, Lin will sell jerseys and be very popular so I don't think it's a disaster.
Knicks fans will be livid if Lin leaves but they made the decision to bring Felton back do clearly the front office didn't want Lin back.

Rockets shouldn't pursue Howard IMHO, give this young team some time.

When you put one of the top Asian players in Houston, you rake in the millions hence why the Rockets would hang on to Yao as long as possible. The money they make from China will pay for Lin's contract. Rockets attendance cash in on 6% plus demographics from the Asian community.

I agree.  I'd rather watch the young players develop this year than get a one year rental in Dwight Howard.  Even if they get Howard, they won't win the NBA Championship so its not worth it IMO.
7/17 1:20 PM | IP: Logged So do you think the Lakers after watching their high school summer league team the last week has them a bit desperate and back in Howard talks? If Lakers add 4-5 guys from that roster their bench is in deep trouble this season.

In case you haven't seen:
Lakers 50, Warriors 90
Lakers 72, Kings 84
Lakers 56, Heat 106 (record summer difference)

I realize wins and losses mean nothing in summer league but those players are awful on the Lakers. They've really drafted and signed horribly with youth lately.

That may not make sense as I reread it. Point is lakers summer team yikes

Supposedly the Rockets will still have the flexibility to facilitate a trade with Orlando for Howard. But they have to wait to see what happens with Lin and Asik to know what they would need to do.

In the meantime, the Lakers are back in trying to get him. Not sure I understand what the Lakers are trying to do, he will not sign with them and they will not do a trade unless they get a guarantee he will sign an extension, which won't happen. Don't get me wrong, Howard would be an great addition to a Kobe, Gasol, and Nash team, but that's not what he wants.

Again, if I am Orlando, I take the best deal I get regardless of who it is with. I don't think waiting until the season does any good. Sure, more trade chips open up, but how many teams are going to go for a rental for the last few months as opposed to a whole year?

I'd call Houston back and see what they can do after the Lin and Asik chips fall.

7/17 6:21 PM | IP: Logged Houston's rooks look really talented right now, with the addition of Lin and if they get The Bulls center, I like their direction. Howard makes even less sense today IMHO for them.

Summer league teams matter very little; most are comprised of the same players from each league (Orlando and Vegas), and the players just sign on for the league, not the real team. The only ones worth watching on your summer team are rookies under contract, all others are just trying to get noticed to get picked up after.

I'd let the trade go in Cleveland because there's zero shot that Bynum stays in Cleveland more then a year. Yes, Houston's rookie are going to be good and Dwight for 1 year isn't worth it.

Reports are now that he would re-sign with the Lakers. I think it's a lie to get out of Orlando personally.

Link: Sure....because your an honest person Dwight....7/19 12:52 PM | IP: Logged
Because Orlando has been so terrible to him I guess.  Dwight's the victim here!

7/19 3:28 PM | IP: Logged I think Dwight going to be in Orlando for next year. I don't see the Nets ever being able to acquire him and he'll go to the highest bidder, same could happen with Bynum as well.

Think you might be right....now it's come out that regardless of where he would be traded he would enter the FA market next year. Houston was the best shot for a rental and that is not going to happen now. Orlando is screwed.

Ofcourse he won't sign an extension, he gets less money if he does that under the CBA. He will get max money by resigning but not extending. The agent is sending this crap out to make Orlando look bad and try to limit the market and force Orlando's hand.
7/20 2:51 PM | IP: Logged Trade him and get picks, any picks from any team. Willing. he will ruin their season if he's still on the team.

I see him ending up in ATL(hometown) or Dallas next year.
