A little luck for sure and a little being smartest defender in league. He only averages just over 1foul per game.

Oddly on other end he's shooting lowest foul shot attempts since rookie season not getting as many calls, I wonder if foul calls per game are down in whole nba?

After getting blown out several games in a row with the latest being a rout by the Spurs, 129-91, I'm thinking this is the year the Mavericks' playoff ends.
12/23 10:53 PM | IP: Logged Yeah I watched a lot of that Mavs game to see Dirk's return...yikes. If they're going to make the playoffs it's gotta be on Dirk and Mayo to lead them there. Most of the rest of those guys are past their prime (Brand, Marion, VC)

still can not believe they gave up on Chandler
12/24 10:05 AM | IP: Logged
I was stunned by that as well. But Cuban was trying to make the play for Deron Williams and it backfired much like the Steve Nash debacle.
12/25 5:01 PM | IP: Logged Crazy by Nets firing A Johnson so soon but their new owner hates Knicks getting all the media love so he's got his work cut out for him. Nets offense is like Laker D, a mess.

Suspension for Dwight or just a fine?

Think that Dwight should've gotten a game for that.

I can't believe Heat were so outspoken about Wade's suspension. You kick a guy in the nuts...you oughta get suspended.

Any idea what is going on with Bernard James?

I get that he only gets garbage time minutes, but in his last minutes he put 12 pts 9 rb and 3 blk up. Then, no minutes for 4 straight games. Two of those are 20+ pt losses.

I can't imagine that the return of the basketball player formerly known as Dirk Nowitzki and signing of Chris Douglas-Roberts would keep James on the bench through two blowouts.
12/29 1:05 PM | IP: Logged I was wondering the same thing...I saw him in a suit last night and wondered what was going on. He played really well against Miami recently.

Pretty good article here about Sarge and his lack of playing time here. Sorry I can't link it but copy & paste to your browsers.

Did anyone watch magic heat tonight? those refs might not see much time again this season. Some extremely strange calls vs Heat to keep that close late then bad calls vs Magic in OT.

That all being said Heat are playing awful on road especially Wade. -24 tonight and 3/10 ft. Yuck this team needs a big man who can rebound Bosh is getting killed on the glass at C.

Heat with an epic collapse in Portland last night literally difficult to lose that game and they did. This roster isn't winning a title, they lead league in shooting but it doesnt matter when you cant rebound or guard the perimeter, they need a center.

Seattle should get a team have never heard good things about Sacramento organization so hopefully it works out.

I imagine they will get one. The Heat have multiple veterans with short contracts. I wouldn't be surprised if Nene was moved again this year.

Houston has been surprisingly decent this year so far, barely been able to watch since Comcast Sports Network hasn't reached an agreement with AT&T U-Verse yet. Toney Douglas has been playing some good ball off the bench too. There's been games where he's been way more productive than Jeremy Lin.

Would be nice to see Houston slide into the playoffs, although I have no illusions about them winning it all. Nobody figured they'd win more than 25-30 games here after the roster overhaul last summer, prior to the last minute trade for Harden.

Right on cue, the Rockets lay an egg in Boston tonight.
1/12 12:43 AM | IP: Logged Thing with Miami is they think they can play 48 night small ball. They can't. They have to mix it up but haven't all season I don't get what their coach and Riley are doing aside from throwing away 1 seed.

The Mavs hold off the Rockets for the 105-100 win. Dirk with a big 4th qtr (what elese is new?) It's a good night. I never like losing to the Rockets.
1/16 10:48 PM | IP: Logged Bill,
You think Mavs make a move this month or they stay together if they keep improving this month?

20k for Lebron, I wonder if he'd be at 25k now if he were more of a shoot first guy? Durant may break all these firsts down the road IMHO

Posted from wireless.rivals.com

That's funny. The Lakers actually looked better than I expected Artest played great, but then again Heat kept them around with their worst jump shooting night of the season. Tons of points in the paint though got them the win as they blew by Nash, Kobe and Howard all game. Nice suffocating D by Heat last two nights maybe they'll catch fire now after their absurd 6 day break.

Hopefully the Laker fighting continues

Big win for y'all, Dirk sure was money down the stretch.

Lin and Harden couldn't free throws to save their lives in the 4th quarter that night. Rockets are struggling again, figure they'll finish around .500 and the 9th seed for the third straight season.

Even though Cuban says he will open the wallet (despite that huge luxury tax kicking in) O think they end up standing pat mainly b/c they don't find anything worthwhile in return for what they can trade.

Who would want anything the Mavs have other than Dirk? They are either too old long in the tooth in their careers (case in point Elton Brand just now vs OKC who clearly didn't have the legs to put the offensive put back in twice air balling the second attempt .... and it was only in the first qtr of the game) or are basically cast offs from other teams i.e. Collison and Mayo (you will get nothing of real value back for those two).

Man, Elton Brand has zero legs. None at all. His vertical is about 4 inches now. He can't jump at all anymore. He picked up a flagrant one b/c he can't get up to the ball.

I do. It was some guy named Kevin Durant making ridiculous shot after ridiculous shot esp in OT. It wasn't like Marion wasn't guarding him in OT.
1/20 3:04 PM | IP: Logged
Nice win by the Mavs over Orl last night. I watched it after the AFC playoff game. Clutch three by Collison. But it is clear what one the Mavs main issues is. They are having trouble closing out games when they have a good lead.

Matt Goukas hit it on the head when he commented about Tyson Chandler being the center the Mavs needed. Why Cuban passed on resigning him I have no idea.
1/21 11:29 AM | IP: Logged Bill,
That Dallas OKC 4th was a perfect example why Durant and Westbrooks hostile relationship gives opponents a chance late which I thought Dallas should have exploited even more.
Durant entered the 4th on fire and after making a jumper went ice cold. He then forced 6 straight bricks early in the shot clock as soon as he touched the ball, as if he was afraid Westbrook wouldn't give it back, that allowed Dallas back in and tied the game. Then Durant hit some free throws as Dallas bailed him out late, but finished 4th 2/11 fg, 2 turnovers, 8/8 fts.
OT he got some easy looks as he got hot again that was game.
Durant had a nice point total but when he goes 2/11 in 4th you have to win that game at home IMHO.

Grizz Cavs trade.
Cavs get Ellington, Speights , Selby
Grizz get Leuer and future 1st, I think.

Give Cavs credit for losing Varejao and making a move for the fans. Waiters can't shoot but Irving and Thompson are nice pieces.

Wonder if trade gates open now?

Which has been a problem for Dallas this season in not being able to close out games or hold double digit leads. The 4th qtr has not been kind to Dallas this season.
1/23 9:44 AM | IP: Logged No offense to the Knicks, Pacers, or Nets...but come playoff time I think the Bulls will be the clear 2nd best team in East. Noah and Boozer are playing way better this year. Hinrich will be a better backup to Rose than Watson was last year. Belinelli is a better player than Korver. I really think this team is in better shape this year than it's been the last few years as long as Rose is himself by playoff time. Seems like a pretty big if...but we shall see.

Ellington has been really good for Memphis this year...that will be a tough loss for them. They're a pretty bad outside shooting team and don't have many other 3 point shooters.

Although, it didn't hurt them against LA tonight! Haha!

The Gay trade was a bit surprising. I thought that after they shedded Speights and Ellington they'd try to keep him. Guess not...although the package they got back wasn't bad.

There is a reason teams didn't want the likes of Mayo, Collison, Brand, Kaman, and Carter. Tonight's 68-44 deficit to OKC is proof of that. These guys can't defend. Cuban really missed on these guys. Here I waited all this time for a FSU player to end up on the Mavs and Bernard has to be a part of this nightmare.

You're crazy if you think the Bulls are clearly better than the Pacers. Would they be favored if both Rose and Granger were healthy and playing the playoffs? Probably but it's by a razor thin margin. Pacers are a Chicago clone.

He is there to compete with the Knicks in the sports pages, I think the Nets are to the Knicks what the Jets are to the Giants.

2/9 9:10 AM | IP: Logged Lebron's game is on another level this year for sure, he's a much better player today than he was in Cleveland. My guess is when the playoffs start he will post up even more, no need to wesr him out there now. He's not forcing anything which is why his efficiency is off the charts right now. Maybe the Heat will repeat after all if he keeps this up all year

I really do think the Bulls at full strength are better than Indiana. It would be a good series but I would be surprised if Pacers could beat them with a full squad. Problem is, it doesn't seem like Bulls are going to be at full strength. Noah is playing hurt and is clearly not the same. Who knows what we'll get with Rose. Hope we can settle this debate in the postseason this year though.

Yes but to beat The Heat is you have to stop everyone besides Lebron. You can deal with the 30/7/7 because he's going to get that whether you try and stop it or not. You have to limit Wade to around 20, Bosh, Allen etc.. It's the secondary players who are getting wide open looks and hitting them that kill opponents. I'd be much worried about resting Wade as he's playing on barrowed time IMO with the amount of wear and tear he has on that body.

Indiana has better bigs and a better defense this year (#1 in D Eff, Chicago 4th) not to mention their offense efficency will improve once Granger comes back. Granted, if Rose comes back that could be the x-factor but I think if Indiana gets homecourt which I think they do, they'll be favored.
