I've got to add to this story. I'm actually on the 1989 team highlight video waving a huge FSU flag on the sideline for that game. I had great seats as I started the game on the sideline about 1-2 rows off the field where several members of the basketball and other teams were standing. At the start of the game, the Leon County Sheriff's department saw Ibis carrying a fire extinguisher. The thought was he was going to put the spear out with it. Two deputies pinned his butt right up on the endzone fence so high his feet were off the ground.
The other thing I remember was the crowd chanting "gino gino gino" all night as Gino Torreta went on to have a horrible night. The fumble on the endzone and then the 50 yard pass play from P.T. out of the end zone was awesome.
I had an opportunity to hear Dexter speak a few months back at a booster function. While the others were asking various questions about recruiting, I ended the Q&A with the Bernard Clark flag episode as well as the first play. Dexter had the biggest grin I've ever seen when he was telling the others in the room about those plays. If memory serves correct, that play was the last Dexter had that night as I think we got penalized 30 yards on that play.
