Warchant Week in Review: Clemson

We here at know that our members have busy schedules. It's hard to keep track of every event of every day leading up to a Seminole football Saturday. That's why we've created this convenient feature, a one-stop shop where the big happenings and developments of the week all are laid out prior to kickoff with this week's opponent: Clemson.

Top Stories

Each week of preparation holds different news items. Sometimes the headlines are depth-chart related. Other weeks see injuries as the hot-button issues. This week, FSU news has been calm before the storm.

Florida State entered the 2011 match-up with Clemson without several key pieces to its roster. The 'Noles only had two cornerbacks they felt comfortable playing with the absence of Greg Reid. Quarterback EJ Manuel was injured, so the task of winning in Death Valley fell upon the shoulders of backup Clint Trickett. And the Seminole offensive line was banged up after already showing signs of deficiency in run blocking.

This season sees the Seminoles in much better health, albeit missing a key defensive end in Brandon Jenkins. The offensive line is intact with the return of right tackle Menelik Watson, who came into the Wake Forest game in relief of substitute starter Daniel Glauser. A late week concern about receiver Jared Haggins not participating in Thursday's practice was quelled last night by head coach Jimbo Fisher. So if nothing else, the Seminoles year-to-year are far healthier in this game against Clemson.

Wagons circled

Ask Florida State players about what the game means this weekend - we at Warchant do every day - and you'll get a stock answer. The Seminoles have circled the wagons this weekend, keeping their focus right in front of them when talking to the press. Call that a learning experience from the mega-hype of FSU versus Oklahoma, or call it greater focus in general. In either case, Florida State's players are mum about the game. With a sellout at Doak Campbell Saturday night, they'll get the chance to let their contained emotions loose.
