Dawkins enjoyed Carolina visit

Duncan (S.C.) Byrnes four-star defensive end Everett Dawkins received an offer from South Carolina in October and has had the Gamecocks in his top five ever since. He was one of several unofficial visitors on hand in Columbia this weekend and enjoyed his trip.

"It was a good visit," said Dawkins. "Everything went good. It was a nice atmosphere. The Gamecocks didn't come out on top, but it was a nice atmosphere. I talked to some of the recruits that were coming in that are from South Carolina and that I'm going to the Shrine Bowl with. I talked to just about all of the coaches. Tyrone Nix and Brad Lawing, I talked to them for a good bit."

The 6-foot-2, 242-pound Dawkins was impressed with the gameday environment around Williams-Brice.

"I liked the atmosphere and all of the facilities and everything," he said. "It's nice. It's all packed in. On gameday, everybody in the whole community is focused on the game. It's real nice. I thought the fans were really into the game. It was a packed house. It was great."

With an impressive top five including childhood favorite Florida State, Dawkins is continuing to weigh his options.
