Ealey doesn't back down

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Freshman running back Washaun Ealey said he wasn't about to back down.

During the second half of Florida's 41-17 win, Ealey briefly got up in the face of Gator linebacker Branden Spikes, who the freshman said was attempting to gouge his eyes.

Television replays indicated that Ealey was correct.

"They were trying to dig in my eyes, but that's all in football," Ealey said. "I've just got to roll with it."

Ealey was one of the few bright spots for the Bulldogs, rushing for a team-high 70 yards on 17 carries.

The former ECI star said it wasn't a one-time occurrence.

"That's how they play. They got me on the ground and they were doing it all night," Ealey said. "The refs just weren't seeing it."

Ealey was asked why he believed he was targeted for such behavior.

"Probably because I was out there and not backing down from them," he said.

With his 70-yard effort, Ealey is now Georgia's second-leading rusher behind Richard Samuel. Ealey has now rushed 48 times for 196 yards, an average of 4.08 yards per rush.

"I feel like I played OK, but I feel bad because we lost the game," Ealey said. "This hurts. We lost the game and that's all that really matters."
