Carolina DT could visit soon

Michigan State is still in the hunt to land Wadesboro (N.C.) Anson three-star defensive tackle Tra Thomas, and the Spartans would like to get the 6-1, 271-pounder on campus for an official visit in the very near future.

SpartanMag.com caught up with Thomas recently and he updated the latest in his recruitment.

"I talked to (MSU) last week and they're still talking about me being their No. 1 guy (at DT) and they're trying to get me up there for an official visit, things like that, and how the coaches like me," Thomas shared.

Handling Thomas' recruitment is Ted Gill, who would also serve as Thomas' position coach if he were to sign with the Spartans. Thomas said he has built a good relationship with Gill and that's one of the reasons he still has MSU under consideration.

"Well, they are telling me I could start my first year, things like that," Thomas said when asked what he likes about the Spartans. "And they got good tradition. Coach Gill is a good coach. And they've been getting a lot of publicity, you know great things going on there. It could be a great spot, a great fit for me if that was my choice."
