Texas speedster likely to visit

The speedy Michael Walker, of Brenham (Tex.) has chosen to slow down his recruiting process until the end of his high school football season. The 5-foot-10, 175-pound Walker has been timed consistently in the 4.3 range in the 40-yard dash and has used his speed to attract scholarship offers from Colorado State, UTEP, Louisiana Tech and Louisiana-Monroe.

This season Walker's Brehman football team has made it to the third round of the Texas state football playoffs and posted a 10-2 record. Walker has seen time as a defensive back and linebacker on defense as well as some time playing fullback on offense. Coming into last weekend's contest, Walker has been credited with 99 tackles, five sacks and an interception.

"On defensive they are playing at times in the secondary sometimes, but mostly linebacker where they have me chasing the ball because I can catch a play real fast. I haven't played a lot of offense, but I have played some fullback. I block real well, but I am getting to run the ball more in the playoffs," Walker said.

While the high school season is still on his mind, Walker said he is planning on taking some visits in December. He doesn't have anything set up, but has an idea of what schools he would like to see.

"I know I am going to visit Colorado State and Louisiana Tech, TCU and A&M probably," Walker said. "I am still hearing from Colorado State, UTEP, A&M and TCU have been watching some of my games."

The future business major said he has seen some of the interest in him drop recently as the phone calls are becoming fewer from UTEP, but he said his phone is still receiving calls from Colorado State.

"I haven't been talking to them as often, but I do still hear from them and they keep telling me they want me up there for a visit," Walker said of CSU.
