Simon likes the Orange
West Palm Beach (Fla.) Palm Beach Lakes safety Johnnie Simon is close to having double digit scholarship offers. One team that could get him closer to that double digit mark is Syracuse University.
The Orange have not extended an offer to Simon at this time, but there is mutual interest from the school and prospect.
"No they have not offered yet," Simon said. "They told me that want to offer me, but they want to see some film. I did give them so new film when they came over. He said he would let me know what they are going to do when they come back after the break."
Simon, 6-foot-1, 169 pounds is being recruited by Scott Shafer for the Orange and he likes how honest the Orange defensive coordinator is.
"I am being recruited by Scott Shafer. We have talked on the phone a few times and he is very upfront with me and he keeps it real, he keeps it honest. I would say that he tells it straight up, he does not keep anything from me."
At his size it makes him very versatile when he hits the field at his safety position and that is what Syracuse likes about him.
"They like the fact that they can put me in the box and use me as a safety that can do a lot of things."
That is what Syracuse likes about Simon, but what does the two star prospect likes about the Orange?
"School wise they have the number one broadcasting program and that is what I want to major in. Football wise I feel that they are coming back up."
With the mutual interest between the two parties a visit has been talked about, but there is one item that will make or break a trip to Syracuse.
"I will visit only if they offer," Simon stated. "We did talk about setting one up in January."
Besides Syracuse there are a couple of schools showing a lot of interest to Simon and they have scheduled visits for the prospect.
"On the eighth of January I am going to Bowling Green and the following week I am going to Middle Tennessee. After those two visits I am going to either Arizona State or Mississippi State I haven't decided."
Does Simon have any leaders right now?
"My number one would probably be Western Michigan because they have been on me since day one and number two would be Middle Tennessee."
With his visits being set up so late in the process Simon is in no hurry to make a commitment.
"I might want to commit when I get done with all of my visits. I know it might be a little bit late, but I have to make the right choice."
