Drake receives test scores
One of the last pieces of the puzzle has fallen into place for the Colorado State football recruiting Class of 2010. Dallas running back Tony Drake said Sunday that he has taken the SAT and qualified for entry into Colorado State University. Drake, who was ranked the eighth-best running back in the state of Texas by Rivals.com, will now join the Ram football team for fall practice in August.
"I took my SAT already and I qualified," Drake said. "It really felt good because everyone here was thinking I wasn't going to pass it, but I worked hard and I passed."
Drake said the coaching staff was also fired up at the news of his qualification and is now excited to see him in Fort Collins.
"Really, they are just telling me they want me up there so I can learn the system and the plays," Drake said. "It is like getting a monkey off my back."
As a junior Drake ran for 429 yards and three touchdowns. As a senior, he paced Skyline with 1,373 yards rushing and 13 touchdowns, averaging 8.6 yards per carry. He also caught 12 passes for 119 yards and another score. He was named Second Team All-District last season for his efforts.
Drake committed to play football for Michigan last year before de-committing and agreeing to attend Colorado State in Feb. just before National Signing Day. While he was waiting for a qualifying test score, Drake also signed a National Letter of Intent to play for Navarro Junior College in Texas as a back-up plan.
"I signed with them just to be secure," Drake said.
"Drake said he would be in Fort Collins to visit Colorado State again before moving to Fort Collins this summer. Currently, he said his sights are set on getting stronger and faster, which could be a feat, given his 4.4 time in the 40-yard dash.
"Really it has just been working out at the school on the parachute and on the weights," Drake said when asked what his winter has entailed. "I haven't maxed out yet, but I know I am getting a lot stronger."
