Poole ready to roll, more notes

For a football player, the chance to put on the pads for the first time in preparation for a new season is the kind of momentous occasion that's guaranteed to put a little air in your sails. Tennessee tailback Tauren Poole is among those who can't wait to get on the field, but for him, the motivation has nothing to do with the calendar and everything to do with simply getting an opportunity.

Any observer of Tennessee's football team over the past couple of years has been aware that Poole was a talented back-up to say the least. Even as a freshman, stuck behind upper-classmen and current NFL'ers Arian Foster and Montario Hardesty, Poole flashed some eye-popping ability.

He consistently broke big runs and showed a knack for gaining extra yardage whenever given a chance in scrimmage situations that first year, and seemed poised to battle for playing time as Hardesty's back-up going into 2009.
