Mullen excited about the opener

The excitement and anticipation of game week does not only affect fans.

It also has an influence on head coaches as well. Mississippi State's Dan Mullen is fired up as much as the maroon and white faithful to get the 2010 season underway Saturday at home against Memphis.

"I love coaching and I love game day," Mullen said. "I love that we are going to have a sold out stadium and a great, excited crowd. I'm great with playing Memphis in a private setting somewhere with no crowds. I love game day and that's what you coach for to get to see the results of all your hard work on that field. This is the most exciting time of the year."

In only his second year at the helm of the Bulldogs, Mullen understands the emotion that will be on the opposing sideline as Memphis' Larry Porter makes his head coaching debut.

"We are playing a tough opponent with Memphis," Mullen said. "They have a first year head coach and as a first year head coach last year I know how important that first game is and how much they are going to put into this first game and what a big game it is for them. We know we've got to be ready to go. They are a talented team of guys. If you look at their roster they've got a lot of transfers from a lot of different schools and several of them were recruited to Mississippi State that are on their roster."

The Tigers roster features a pair of former MSU standouts in linebacker Jamon Hughes and wide receiver Delmon Robinson.
