Miss. defender visits Tide

Batesville (MS) South Panola defensive lineman Issac Gross has picked up a lot of attention from SEC programs this spring, picking up offers from Tennessee, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, LSU and Alabama. On Tuesday, Gross paid a quick visit to Tuscaloosa to meet with the Crimson Tide coaching staff and take a tour of the UA campus.

"I was there for a tour and I got to see all the class buildings, all the facilities, the dorms, everything. I had been to campus before but it seems like they've been doing a lot of improvements and adding a lot of things in the last couple of years. It's really the most impressive facilities I've seen and they are still adding to it now."

Gross, 6-foot-3, 270-pounds, lines up at defensive tackle for South Panola but likely projects as either a defensive end or outside linebacker at the college level.

"I got a chance to talk to several of the coaches, including Coach Saban. He was talking to me about what he's seen of my film and he said he really likes my skills and my effort. I sees me as being an outside linebacker in their defense and I've played some linebacker before so it's not totally a shock to me. I would have no problem switching positions if it means I can be a better teammate and a better contributor to the defense."

Gross said he has no plans on making an early decision but said he does know he'll be playing somewhere in the Southeast.

"I really want to play in the SEC but I don't have a favorite outside of that. It's where the best football is being played right now and I wouldn't want to be anywhere else."
