Shepard's Decision Was His Own

Just a few short weeks ago Sterling Shepard was celebrating not only his birthday but the news of the school he had grown up following, Oklahoma, extending him a scholarship offer. However, the 5-foot-10, 175-pound Oklahoma City Heritage Hall product was adamant that he would take his time and have a look at other schools who had offered him like Clemson, Notre Dame, and others.

However, quietly the Sooner legacy was thinking about the opportunity to play at the same school as his father and two of his uncles. So what changed his opinion to cause him to commit on Monday evening?

"It was the place I Wanted to be so I got it over with," Shepard said. "It wasn't like other schools weren't going to matchup, I appreciate all the places, and they all seemed like great people. I'm not putting anyone down but Oklahoma was close to home, and my family will be close to me. The tradition in my family has just been loyal to them and I wanted to continue that."

And though much has been made of Shepard's ties to the program but at the time of his offer being made Sooner assistant coach Jackie Shipp was adamant that his offer was about his talent rather than any connection to the program.
