Big OL has eyes on Army

Army already have several quality offensive linemen on their recruiting board, like Mendota Heights (Mn) St. Thomas Academy offensive guard prospect Isaac Hayes who has already pulled in an offer from the Black Knights along with several other colleges.

Then there are a few OL prospects that have taken the initiative and reached out to Army staff via questionnaires and/or highlight tapes to express their interest in Black Knights' program and the West Point institution.

Beau Jenkins is such a player. The 6-foot-3, 280 pound lineman from Corsicana (Texas) Mildred Independent School is receiving his share of information from the Black Knights, but is also hearing from several other schools as well.

"I have gotten a questionnaire and a few other things from Army," Jenkins stated yesterday.

In addition to the Black Knights, he has also been in contact with Air Force and Navy.

So what is the power blocking lineman looking for in a college? "I really want to get into military career right now," declares Jenkins. "Something in the line of logistics or other areas like that."

It appears that Jenkins' strong interest in such career can be traced back to his family's roots. "My grandfather served in the Air Force and my uncle served in the Marines and I have an interest in all three of the academies right now."

Jenkins, who is primarily being recruited as an offensive lineman, is still in the hunt for his first offer, but is optimistic that it will just be a matter of time.

"I am very close," said yesterday. "A few schools that are on the line are SMU, Missouri, Kansas State and Kansas right now."
When it comes to putting a square peg in a square hole, Jenkins expressed his knowledge of the style offense that all three of the academies run and how it fits well with his strongest asset. "I love to run blocking and moving…. Being able to pull," he shares. "I can pass block too, but playing in a run oriented offense … I like being able to move, I love to pull and hit someone.

Jenkins has already been busy on the recruiting circuit where he has attended various Junior Day events, along with hitting a few camps and combines.

"I was just invited today to two Junior Days, which are Illinois and Tulsa," Jenkins confirms. "I have already gone to Kansas, Kansas State and Missouri."

"I'm going to the Under Armor combine in Dallas, Texas April 27th and then the FUBU camp in mid-April."

Although the big offensive lineman has plenty on his recruiting plate, he still has entire senior season of football left and hasn't taken his eyes off of what could turn out to be an outstanding 2011 football campaign.

"We got to the 2nd round of the playoffs, but we got beat, but we have everyone coming back. So we have a chance to win state this year … we have been playing with each other since the 7th - 8th grade." will continue to follow Jenkins' recruiting throughout.
