Texas Playmaker on the Radar
Standing at 5-foot-7, Bellaire (TX) athlete Melvin McAdams isn't the biggest player on the football field. But what he lacks in size, he makes up for in his playmaking ability.
"I'm fast and physical," McAdams said. "I'm a playmaker. I make a lot of plays when it's time to make big plays. When the game is on the line, I step up."
His big play ability, which includes returning kicks and being a shutdown corner for one of the best teams in the Houston area, has caught the eye of several Division One schools. Among the schools showing interest are Arkansas, Houston, Texas Tech, SMU, and Minnesota.
While he's still looking for his first scholarship offer, McAdams says Minnesota has grabbed his interest.
"I'm starting to learn more about Minnesota," McAdams said. "It's actually one of the top schools on my list. It's in my top three with SMU and Tech."
He says he's optimistic his first scholarship offers will come soon.
"They're all right there," he said, discussing the teams expressing interest in him. "They're right on my heels."
McAdams hopes he'll have a few scholarship offers by the end of the summer. He says he'll ideally make a college commitment before his senior season starts. It's a senior season that Bellaire has high hopes for.
"We're looking pretty good," McAdams said about his high school team. "We're picked by a few people to win our district and a few websites even picked us to win state."
As for those questions about his size, McAdams made sure to address his doubters.
"I've always proved people wrong," he said. "I'll go about against a receiver who is 6-foot-4 and I can lock him down."
