As fall camp for the Oregon State Beavers reaches the third week, BeaverBlitz.com brings you our Hot 11, the top players in camp so far that look to be difference makers come kick-off September 3rd against Sacramento State.
Topping off our list is Poyer. What an amazing story he has become, from initially being recruited as a walk-on, to earning a greyshirt offer, then being a last minute add for fall camp, playing as a true freshman and now appears to be a lock-down corner. Poyer can do a bit of everything as he routinely lines up across such a diverse array of receivers everyday in practice, from speedsters James Rodgers, Brandin Cooks, and Markus Wheaton, to big lanky and ultra athletic Obum Gwacham. These practice reps he receives will only better prepare him for what lies ahead in Pac-12 play. Throughout the average practice, I would guess that Poyer breaks up a half dozen passes and hauls in at least one pick. On top of being a shutdown corner, Poyer is also a lock to be one of the returners on special teams. While he might not be a homerun threat everytime he touches the ball, his combination of vision, power and speed helped him average nearly 29 yards per kickoff return. Big things are on the horizon for Poyer.
