Ross selected as All-American

Though he has battled with a serious ankle injury sustained on the third play of the season at the Trojans annual Jenks Preview Jenks, Okla. running back Alex Ross continues to build upon an impressive high school resume.

This past week's No. 1 ranked prospect was selected to play Jan. 5 in the Under Armour All-American High School Football Game.

"I found out about (being selected) by coach (Cale) Gundy. I think it's going to be a great experience," said Ross, who has racked up 177 yards and 4 touchdowns while playing sparingly in two games and even sat out the Trojans (3-0) opener.

In it's fifth year of existence the Sooner commit knows the week spent with other participants will leave a lasting impression on him as well as giving him a taste of competing with the countries best- even if his day in, day out practices at Oklahoma powerhouse Jenks wasn't enough.

"I don't think it's like if I do good at the Under Armour game then I'm automatically going to succeed in Norman when I get on campus. I don't think that correlates with the two but I mean I'm open to great experiences and I'm going to go hard and try my hardest and we'll see what happens down there," says Ross.

"I just like going against the best. I'm sure there will be a lot of really talented players down there and I like going up against them and we'll see how we equal out."

But the nation's No. 14 ranked running back prospect must first get healthy before he can show out on a national stage.

"I haven't practiced the last couple of weeks because I'm still not 100-percent and this week isn't really a tough game so they just want to rest me and let me get healthy so they'll have me later on down the road," said Ross, who was held out of the Trojans 54-7 trouncing of Shawnee (Okla.) over the weekend.

This week (Sept. 28) the 6-foot-1, 205-pound superstar will be paid a visit by the American Family Insurance Selection Tour who will formally present the Jenks product with an honorary game jersey.

The Under Armour Al-American High School Football Game will be played at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg (Fla.) and will be televised on ESPN.
