Gurley becomes No. 17

TARBORO, N.C. - Just as was the case with Keith Marshall, Internet rumors were hot and heavy that Todd Gurley was going to choose Clemson over Georgia.

But for the second time in the past month, the results were the same as the Gurley became the second North Carolina native to commit to the Bulldogs during a press conference at his school Friday afternoon.

Gurley the Bulldogs over Clemson and North Carolina State.

Georgia started the 2012 recruiting cycle wanting at least two running backs, and Gurley has been one of its top targets from the beginning.

As a senior, Gurley carried the ball 148 times for 1,457 yards and 27 touchdowns.

Gurley also led the Tarboro Vikings to a 13-2 record and a third straight NCHSAA 2A State Championship, but the three-star athlete wasn't done there.

He also turned in an impressive performance in the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas with 19 carries for 119 yards and two scores.

Gurley visited the Bulldogs back in September with friend, fellow North Carolina and eventual UGA commit Marshall, and Georgia remained the favorite throughout the process.

Gurley gives the Bulldogs their 17th commitment for the 2012 class.

More to come.
