With Florida State's 2012 recruiting class all signed up, it's a good time to look back at the 'Noles' highly regarded 2011 class. Several players from the 29-member class saw early action this past season and a handful were major contributors, while several others either redshirted or saw limited action.
* Fourteen true freshmen, and two junior college transfers, saw action in at
least one game.
* Of these newcomers, eight started at least one game and three started in
more than half of last year's games.
* One signee transferred to another school before the start of the season
(Jordan Prestwood), one transferred to a JUCO after redshirting (Arrington
Jenkins), and one failed to qualify (Terry Bell).
* Five members of the 2011 class earned some type of freshmen All-Americanhonors.
* Eleven 2011 signees redshirted.
Head of the Class: These rookies stood out above the others
Timmy Jernigan - Defensive tackle (6-3/297)
Lake City, FL (Columbia)
Games Played: 13
Stats: 30 tackles, 6 TFLs, 2.5 sacks, 3 QBH, 1 FR
Jernigan came on like gangbusters in his rookie season. While he technicallydidn't start a game, by midseason he was a regular in the rotation and wasgetting as much playing time as the starters. In fact, he was the only truefreshman to see action in every one of FSU's 13 games. He racked up moretackles (30), tackles for loss (6) and sacks (2.5) than any player at hisposition group. Had his breakout game against NC State when he posted acareer-high five tackles, including two for loss, a sack and a fumble return.Jernigan's performance against the Wolfpack earned him ACC Defensive Lineman ofthe Week honors.
2012 Outlook: The competition will be fierce for playing timewith the entire three-deep depth chart at defensive tackle returning from lastseason. Nevertheless, with another year to get stronger and perfect histechnique, you have to believe that Jernigan will push for a starting spot andshould see even more playing time this season.
