Marriner has top four

Chesapeake (Va.) Western Branch running back Josh Marriner's leaders are Connecticut, Old Dominion, Richmond and Temple.

He claims scholarship offers from Air Force, Connecticut, Navy, Old Dominion, Richmond, Temple and Wofford, while James Madison, North Carolina, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest and West Virginia have shown interest. Marriner has the most contact with ODU, Richmond and Temple.

"If I had a scholarship [from] there [Wake] I'd probably be going there," Marriner said. "We'll see how stuff goes as far as the season goes and where me and Wake Forest stand."

The 5-foot-8 and 188-pound Virginia prospect, who is rated as a two-star recruit by, camped at Wake Saturday, July 14.

"I like some of the coaches on the coaching staff, especially the running backs coach [Billy Mitchell] and the recruiting coach [Jonathan Himebauch]," Marriner said. "I got to meet the head coach [Jim Grobe]. He's a good guy. I wouldn't mind playing under him."

"He [Mitchell] talked with me and my dad after the camp. He said he likes whenever I run the ball I never go back. He said he wants to see me progress in the season. Coach Himey is real cool. I didn't get to talk to him as much as I wanted to, but the time I did get to talk to him was nice. We talk on Facebook every now and then."

He is going to take official visits to Air Force, Connecticut and Temple.

"I'm in the [decision-making] process right now," Marriner said. "It's just whenever I feel my heart is where I want to be, wherever it's at, as long as I'm ready to make that's when I'm going to make it."

"[I want a college with] a great science program, whether it's in biology, chemistry or even pharmacy, and then as far as football I like teams that produce players; not just because they were good in high school, but make them better than what they were, so progression. I like a lot of schools with progression."

Marriner added he will likely choose a school before the season starts.

He said college coaches talk about his character on and off the field, like his speed and build. Marriner added he is powerful, has great vision and surprising breakaway speed.
