Missouri will likely look for its first Southeastern Conference win without its starting quarterback this week. James Franklin was listed as doubtful in the game notes released on Monday, still recovering from a sprained MCL suffered in the loss to Vanderbilt three weeks ago.
Corbin Berkstresser is listed as the starter. He has started two games this year. Berkstresser led Mizzou to a 24-21 win over Arizona State and also started the Tigers' 42-10 loss to top-ranked Alabama.
In his two starts, the redshirt freshman is 33-for-70 for 324 yards. He has not thrown a touchdown and has been intercepted three times. Berkstresser has 24 carries for minus-25 yards and a TD in the two games.
"Definitely some throws downfield that I missed," Berkstresser said of his performance against Alabama. "I know I missed a couple times, may have underthrown it, but definitely some opportunities where we can do against some other teams deep downfield and with the vertical passing game."
For the year, Berkstresser is 54-for-113 for 627 yards, three touchdowns and three picks. Franklin is 73-for-119 for 805 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions. Franklin has started five games, but Berkstresser has played in six. The lone time Franklin went the distance was a 21-16 win at Central Florida. By the end of the game on Saturday, Berkstresser will have played about the same amount of time as Franklin.
