Thompson likes a challenge

MARIETTA - Westover's Trenton Thompson was one of the youngest participants taking part in Sunday's Rivals Camp Series at Marietta High. He also came with one purpose in mind.

"I want to go against the best," the rising junior said. "I want to do a good job and represent Albany the best way I can."

He's already got a fan in the Georgia Bulldogs.

At 6-foot-4 and 284 pounds, Thompson currently counts Georgia as his only verbal offer, although that is certain to things the more he gets out and starts taking visits to other schools.

He does haves some in mind.

"I want to visit Florida State, Florida, Alabama, Oregon and Ole Miss," said Thompson, who said he is starting to get some nibbles from South Carolina, North Carolina, Penn State and Duke.

But Thompson says make no mistake, Georgia tops his current list.

"I love Georgia," said Thompson, who also praised new Bulldog defensive line coach Chris Wilson.

"He's always talking to me about my academics. He tells me he wants to be up here," said Thompson, holding his hand a foot above his head. "He says 'I want you to be my Preacher Dawg.'"

Thompson had hoped to get to Athens for Saturday's G-Day game.

"I did, but I got up late. My mom got up late," Thompson said. "We got into some traffic and got stopped up. But the coaches are coming down spring anyway, plus I'm going to go over there in September for some games."

In the meantime, as much as he likes the Bulldogs, Thompson said he's going to take his time when it comes to making his choice.

"My coach said I can commit this summer, and if the time is right, I will," Thompson said. "But I still want to see if I can get some more offers and take some more visits."
