When Spring Valley (Columbia, S.C.) linebacker Christian Miller put himself back on the market last month by decommitting from Florida, he made it known that he planned to take a number of visits before he even considered another commitment.
Georgia was one of the teams to turn up the heat on the Palmetto State playmaker once he became an uncommitted prospect, and the Bulldogs received a coveted visit.
According to Miller, the visit was a positive one.
"It was phenomenal," Miller said in a phone interview with UGASports on Wednesday night. "I got to see everything that I've been wanting to see there. I got to meet a couple of different members of the coaching staff that I hadn't met yet. I sat down with Coach (Mark) Richt and got to know him better. I got to see the guys go through a work out and see their strength and conditioning program, which is great. I hung out with my friend Jeb Blazevich and that was really fun. He is a great guy and he was telling me about Georgia so everything just went great."
So what was the main highlight of the trip for the four-star prospect?
"Sitting down with Coach Richt and getting to know him was probably the best part," he said. "I had spoken with him before, but it was great to sit down with him one-on-one to have a talk with him and get to know him a lot better. He's very down to earth and very honest. He isn't going to tell you what you want to hear, which I like, and he is very genuine. He is a person you can definitely trust. If he feels like you are a good fit for the program, then he will recruit you and I like that because it means a lot. It makes you feel special."
Alabama and Florida appear to be the two teams mentioned most with Miller, but when UGASports spoke with the Rivals250 linebacker after his decommitment from the Gators, it appeared that the Bulldogs might have a chance to join the race.
Miller says that this visit to Athens has definitely put Georgia in the mix for his signature and for a variety of reasons.
"I'm just going into each and every visit to see if I feel comfortable and see if I like the place. The visit to Georgia made me realize that it is definitely a school that I'm very interested in," Miller said. "They have a lot to offer with the really nice business program. That program would be a great fit for me. They also fit well scheme wise with the 3-4 defense and it is just a great town, too. They just have a lot to offer and they are definitely in the running for it."
When it comes to future plans, Miller's schedule is booked for the immediate future, but he plans to get on the road again in July to take visits.
"I have The Opening coming this weekend and after that I plan on hitting the road to take some visits," Miller said. "I'm going to visit Alabama next month for sure. When I get back over to Georgia, it will probably be for a game during the fall. I may go to Tennessee for a visit as well. I don't know where I'm going yet."
