Dixon clears first hurdle?

One of the hottest topics of the summer surrounding the Red Raider football team is the academic status of sophomore defensive end McKinner Dixon. Most fans will recall that Dixon sat out most of the spring to concentrate on academics.

When asked at the beginning of spring drills if Dixon's status was a concern Mike Leach replied, "Yeah, obviously."

His time away from the field this spring though appears to have paid off, at least for now. While more work and progress is clearly needed in order for Dixon to remain eligible, two sources tell that "one hurdle" has been cleared. Obviously that is a sign of progress and for the Red Raiders sake it needs to continue well into the summer, but make no mistake, there is still work to be done on Dixon's part before he's cleared to suit up next season.

Dixon told immediately after the Red & Black game this past April 15th that he wouldn't miss a game.

"I'm not missing one game, not one game will be missed next year, I guarantee it," Dixon said.
