Matthews looking to play two sports

Cheraw, S.C., defensive end and tight end Cliff Matthews could have easily traveled to Athens, Ga. to compete in the NIKE training camp, but he made the trip to Gainesville instead.

Part of the reason why Matthews made the trip was because he wanted to compete against some of the best high school football talent in the southeast, but the bigger reason was because the South Carolina state track meet fell on the same weekend as the Nike camp in Georgia. He ended up placing second in the state in the shot put event.

But track and football aren't the only sports the 6-foot-5, 230-pound linemen plays. He also excels in basketball and has received just as many basketball offers as football offers. And when he was in Gainesville last week, he made sure he visited the Florida basketball facilities as well.
