Notes: Savage breaks out
JUCO RB shows his stuff
Junior college transfer Dantrell Savage had been relatively quiet through the first five practices. Sure, his speed was apparent, but nothing really jumped out. That changed on Tuesday morning.
Early in the team session, Savage took a swing pass from quarterback Zac Robinson, picked up a solid block from D'Juan Woods on the edge and turned the corner in afterburner mode.
Coaches blew the whistle to stop the play after about 25 yards, but it was apparent no one was going to catch Savage in an approximate 60-yard touchdown.
He showed his ability to make people miss a few plays later when linebacker Marcus Brown met him behind the line of scrimmage on a sweep to the wide side of the field. Though Brown lowered the boom, Savage absorbed the hit, spun 180 degrees and sprinted around the corner on the short side of the field.
Only the speedy Perrish Cox prevented it from being another 60-yard touchdown.
