Live scrimmage analysis

The Tigers are holding both their final scrimmage, and their final open practice of 2006 at Faurot Field. Gary Pinkel said yesterday that the starters would play no more than about 15 plays. There are two things worth watching: Backups and position battles that are yet to be decided. We'll keep a close eye on those issues.

It appears wide receiver Brad Ekwerekwu will play today. He is stretching with the team without a red bib on. Domonique Johnson is wearing the red bib and Stryker Sulak is out with a red jersey, as is Van Alexander.

*Here is the first team offense for some limited action. On second down, Chase Daniel zips one to William Franklin for about 15. I can't stress enough how good Franklin has looked.

*Daniel picks up another third down on a solid play by Jason Ray. Now it is Tommy Saunders. I'm curious if the quarterback has been told not to lean too heavily on his tight ends during these scrimmages. They've really looked more and more to the wideouts so far.
