Roof: QB starter undecided

A disappointing season opening loss to Richmond has given way to another week of game preparation for Duke, as the Blue Devils prepare for what they hope will be a major rebound performance against in state rival Wake Forest.

Which quarterback will lead Duke into battle remains to be seen though, as head coach Ted Roof said Monday at his press luncheon that he will hold off on making a decision between Marcus Jones and Thaddeus Lewis until later this week.

"We're going to work both of them, practice them both, see how that unfolds and then make a decision closer to game time," Roof said. "I thought both of them did some good things and I thought both of them made some mistakes and we've got to correct the mistakes, move on, and build on what they did well."

Roof had said leading up to the Richmond game that both quarterbacks would play, but that Jones was the clear starter and there would be no quarterback controversy. However, when Lewis played all but three series and the entire second half, it was clear that the freshman had a real chance to win the job outright.
