Wildcats, Bears have much to prove

Somebody is going to put an end to a disappointing trend Saturday night in Waco, that much we know.

What we don't know is whether it will be Kansas State (3-1) who snaps a five-game losing streak in Big 12 Conference openers, or Baylor (1-3) putting a halt to a five-game slide against the Wildcats.

The Bears have never beaten K-State, including a 45-15 loss in the programs' first meeting in 1969. All five of the Wildcats' recent losses in conference openers have come on the road, and Saturday's game will be played at Baylor's Floyd Casey Stadium starting at 6:05 p.m.

K-State senior running back Thomas Clayton knows just how important it is for the Wildcats to start off conference play 1-0, something the program hasn't done since winning 44-21 at Colorado during the 2000 season.

"We have no choice, we have to respond and respond big. We can obviously play; we went toe-to-toe with (No. 8 Louisville last week)," he said. "A win here is a must for this program."
