Rodney Van has the plan
Junior cornerback Rodney Van was involved in one the several very controversial calls that befuddled and stymied the Bruins last week against Oregon. Van's questionable came on a key third down call that would have put the kibosh on Oregon's second drive, but instead the call was made giving the Ducks an automatic first down.
Oregon made the most of it because they went on to score a touchdown to make the score 13-0.
"That call on Saturday was a little rough," Van said. "I thought I had my head turned around and made a nice play. I was looking for the ball and playing the receiver and everything then the referee threw the flag because obviously he thought I grabbed the receiver but (Oregon Duck wide receiver) Jaison Williams had his hand out there holding me back and I slapped it down a little bit and the referee assumed I that I had grabbed his hand instead of knocking it down.
"It was a rough call and it hurt at the time obviously because it was third and long and we would have been able to get off the field instead of giving them first down and later in the drive a touchdown.
"It falls within the rules of the game. I know it was probably a bad call in the eyes of many including myself because that was one of the few times I know for sure that wasn't a pass interference call. But hey it was within the game and you can never predict the calls that the refs are going to make. You just have to comeback after that and continue to play and that's what I did for the rest of the game.
"I didn't get anymore pass interference calls and I knocked away a few balls and made a few plays on tackles and things so it was just one of those things that you have to get out of your mind and continue to play, but it hurt at the time because it prolonged the drive that should have been stopped right there. But hey it is within the rules of the game so you just have to look the other way and continue to play."
