Derby makes an early impression

While it might seem like the number of high level basketball prospects in the state of Iowa has thinned out, just wait, because names you will get to know are on the way. Perhaps leading the way in the Class of 2010 is A.J. Derby, the son of former Iowa linebacker, John Derby. A.J. is already starting as a freshman on the varsity at Iowa City West and Friday night he faces perhaps his toughest test yet in Iowa City High.

Iowa fans will remember his father, John, a hard hitting linebacker who graduated in 1991 and has 262 career tackles, which ranks him 22nd all time for the Hawkeyes.

Derby is a high level prospect, mentioned by some as a possible Top 25 prospect in the nation for his class, and is already receiving letters from schools like: Iowa, Wisconsin, Penn State, Clemson, and many others.
