Saban picks up first commitment
Rivals100 defensive lineman Kerry Murphy is considered to be one of the nation's top tackle prospects. Murphy, 6-foot-5, 315-pounds, has offers from some of the nation's top programs before narrowing his choices down to Alabama, Auburn and Miami early in the process with the Tide leading. Today Murphy made his college choice before leaving Tuscaloosa from his official visit.
"Alabama has always been where I wanted to go and when they hired Nick Saban I knew that it was done. Alabama is a great school with a lot of tradition and I knew it was going to be tough for anyone to beat them so I told him today before I left from my visit that I was coming. He was very excited," Murphy said. "Coach Saban has such a great reputation that when he was named I almost called and committed that day. I want to play for a coach who knows how to make me better and can put us in contention for a national championship. Also, a lot of coaches have tried to tell me they can help me get to the NFL but I know Coach Saban knows what it takes because he's been there.
