Spring Ball Preview: Receivers

The Trojan offense will have a tremendous challenge replacing the most productive duo at receiver in USC history.

Dwayne Jarrett and Steve Smith will both be playing on Sundays and key reserve Chris McFoy is also gone. That leaves junior Patrick Turner and numerous underclassmen to continue the impressive production out of the receiver position.

Even though Turner was third on the team with 29 receptions in 2006, so far the 6-foot-5 receiver has fallen short of expectations. It isn't fair to compare Turner to other big Trojan receivers like Jarrett and Mike Williams, as they had huge impacts as soon as they arrived on campus. Turner has yet to have his breakout season and the Trojan offense will need a big year from him to be successful.

One of the fastest guys on the team, sophomore Travon Patterson has bulked up going into his second year at USC. He has had some limited experience in the offense, but his solid hands and ability to stretch the field should add a new dimension to the passing game.
