Winn proving his worth
It's not a secret that next year's offensive line is in great need for some new faces to step up and make a difference. One of those ready for the challenge is left tackle Marlon Winn.
"I had a chance last year to step in at any position and pick it up and learn it," said Winn. "I've had the chance to get lots of reps and lots of time in the film room. It's helped me a lot."
The sophomore lineman admits that strength and conditioning coach Bennie Wylie's off-season workouts undoubtedly contributed to his performance so far this spring, as well as the time he spent in the practice facility over the last few months on his own.
"[Wylie] had us out here at 5:30 in the morning and then I spent most of my day up here because he wants you to get in that extra work. And then of course if you want to be better, you want to do extra work and get extra film. So it's mainly everything you're doing to yourself and everything that you want to do."
The 6-foot-5 309-pound big man spent his off-season running through a lot of ropes and working on other foot drills as well, concentrating on his footwork, stronger punch off the line, and the ability to stay calm and not overreact.
