Gray keeping busy
DeSoto running back Cyrus Gray can seemingly handle every obstacle thrown his way. Last season, the multi-talented Gray played quarterback, running back, wide receiver and kick returner for the Eagles as they marched to the state quarterfinals, ringing up nearly 2,000 yards rushing and receiving.
This spring, Gray has been almost as productive in track and field. He spent most of the early part of the year training rather than running in meets. His plan worked as Gray has advanced to the Class 5A finals this weekend in Austin after winning the Region I meet approximately 10 days ago.
In fact, Gray has run in just three events this year due to his training regimen. He ran a 10.43 in the Jesuit Relays to win the 100 meters, finished second at the district meet with a 10.61, and then on a windy day captured the regionals with a 10.91.
The 6-foot, 188-pound Gray has scholarship offers from Texas A&M, Arizona, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech.
