Jones projecting high

LSU football coach Les Miles was an interested observer in the Major League Baseball Draft last June.

One of his football signees, Jared Mitchell, was projected to be a high draft choice in baseball. Mitchell was not taken until the tenth round by the Minnesota Twins.

When Minnesota failed to meet the contract demands of approximately $1 million, Mitchell decided to honor his scholarship at LSU. Mitchell is now playing both football and baseball for the Tigers.

Next month, Miles will be watching the baseball draft quite intently once again. This year, Chad Jones of Southern Lab is being touted as a top draft pick. Jones, a defensive back, is expected to contribute on the LSU football team next fall.
