BC defensive line strong in middle

The Boston College defense will remain unchanged for the most part with defensive coordinator Frank Spaziani back in charge. The defensive line is strong up the middle but there are questions on the outside and with depth. Here's a look at the post-Spring depth chart at d-line.

LDE: Alex Albright, Brady Smith, Jim Ramella, Josh Neubert

Alex Albright's contributions as a true freshman last season were very impressive. He displayed great athleticism and appears to be a well on his way to becoming a major contributor in his future. His initial season did not go without growing pains and he is still too lean at 6-5 230 lbs., but he is a baller and will very likely find himself starting this season as he did in the bowl game.

Brady Smith surprised as a redshirt freshman last season and started eight contests, performing admirably. He has yet to display the potential to be a major playmaker or a pass rusher, but he did however show that he could use his great size at 6-2 285 lbs. to be a very strong defensive end against the run. With the lack of depth at defensive tackle and the abundance of depth at defensive end, Brady will be providing insurance at tackle next season as well.

Like Alex Albright, Jim Ramella also impressed as a true freshman at the defensive end position when depth was scarce. Last year Jim was unable to build upon that foundation as he injured his shoulder and was redshirted as a result. Now recovered, he is expected to return this season and be an important cog in the defensive end rotation.

Josh Neubert redshirted last season and has a tough road ahead of him for playing time next season. Due to the lack of depth at defensive end the past couple seasons, many younger players were pressed into significant playing time. As a result there are many returning defensive ends with a lot of experience. Josh will have to really impress in summer practices to see much of the field next season.
