With the second session of summer school beginning today, there are still several members of the Gamecocks incoming freshman class in academic limbo. In today's column, we take a look at the players who have not yet been cleared by the clearinghouse or accepted by University officials and what could happen over the course of the next several days.
Let's start by what we do know. Yesterday, head coach Steve Spurrier stated that three signees had not qualified for freshman eligibility. Two more members of the incoming freshman must either not qualify or be grayshirted in order for USC to get to the number 27, which is the maximum number of players they can bring in this year. Thirty-two players signed with USC on signing day. Included in that number is offensive lineman Ryan Broadhead, who delayed his enrollment, as he signed with the Gamecocks in 2006, but elected to grayshirt in order to work on becoming more physically ready to play in the SEC.
