Lots of competition in Auburn's secondary

Auburn returns three starters in the secondary but there should still be a lot of competition once fall practice gets underway Aug. 2.

"It's an open competition when we start fall camp," said Auburn defensive coordinator and secondary coach Will Muschamp. "We'll chart daily who's being a productive player for Auburn and who's not. Those are the guys that are going to step in the field and play for us.

"Our job is to get the best guys on the field. We've got a good mix of players and I'm looking forward to getting out and coaching them."

Heading into fall, Muschamp feels comfortable with three players at cornerback in seniors Jonathan Wilhite and Pat Lee along with sophomore Jerraud Powers

"I feel like those are the three guys that have played consistent football for us at corner," said Muschamp.

Wilhite is the returning starter who Muschamp would like to see more consistent play from this fall. He enters fall listed as a co-starter with Powers who is finally healthy after battling injuries his first two years.

"I've talked to Jonathan about consistency in performance of being an everyday player," said Muschamp. "Jerraud is a guy that needs to stay healthy. He had a shoulder last season that put him behind in camp and he got banged up as the season went along."

Lee, who's listed as the starter on the other side, has played in 37 career games including nine starts.
