Practice Report: Freshmen take the field

Trio of new QBs get first snaps

After losing two scholarship quarterbacks since last year's fall camp, the Crimson Tide were happy to welcome three new quarterbacks to the roster on Friday including scholarship signal-caller Nick Fanuzzi, walk-on Thomas Darrah and Boston College transfer Ross Applegate.

All three quarterbacks worked with the offense on Friday evening taking full advantage of their only practice time this year without upperclassmen John Parker Wilson and Greg McElroy around.

Working with the new quarterbacks were new wide receivers Marquis Maze, Darius Hanks and A.J. Walker as well as returning players Earl Alexander and Darwin Salaam.

Running backs Demetrius Goode and Jeramie Griffin also saw their first practice snaps on offense along with returning running back Roy Upchurch and fullback Patrick Hanrahan.

Young linemen work with Pendry

The Tide welcomed in two new offensive linemen in freshmen William Vlachos and Patrick Crump, both of whom originally committed to the Tide as greyshirts but were brought in to start this season instead.

Crump and Vlachos worked with their new position coach Joe Pendry as well as several upperclassmen including Scott Deaton, Alex Stadler and Drew Davis. Also working with the linemen were tight ends Chris Underwood, Charles Hoke and Daniel Wood.
